DIY Opel Zafira repair and maintenance

Engine

  • A timing chain of 2.2-litre petrol power unit stretches prematurely. Our tips are to inspect the part every time you service your car and replace it as soon as the component wear-out has been detected.
  • EDC injection pump components burn out. This is caused by the system air lock. We recommend you replace fuel pump seals more often.
  • Water pump bearing or seal may fail after 70,000 kilometres. Signs of the defective bearing are foreign sounds produced by the unit, while the coolant leakage indicates the seal’s failure. You should replace the pump as soon as possible to avoid the power unit overheating. Before you do that, download our video tutorial to precisely follow Opel Zafira repair and operation instructions step by step.

Body

  • Windscreen wiper linkages may oxidize, thus causing the plastic wiper motor failure. Grease moving parts from time to time, inspect and replace the windscreen wiper blades if necessary. Download our free step-by-step video tutorial on Opel Zafira repair in advance.
  • Paintwork on the rear doors, wheel arches, door sills, front and rear fenders peels off. Treat these areas with a special anti-corrosion product. Moreover, you can apply a transparent protection film to the body elements yourself.

Suspension

  • Lifespan of stabilizer links often does not exceed 30,000 kilometres. Their failure can be indicated by severe car rolls at maneuvering. Use our tips and do Opel Zafira repair and maintenance yourself. Once you’ve replaced the components, check wheel alignment.
  • Wheel hub bearings may jam after 60,000 kilometres. Their malfunction often comes with unusual noise. You can replace a broken part with a new one in your garage.

Transmission

  • A mainshaft journal and a bearing of manual transmission wear out after 100,000 kilometres. Their failure is indicated by foreign sounds, jerks and vibrations.
  • A gear shift fork of semi-automatic transmission Easytronic fails after 100,000 kilometres as well. The unit is rather vulnerable and requires regular inspection by specialists.

Electrics

  • Sensor connectors, ABS in particular, may oxidise, thus leading to the instrument cluster false reading. The problem can be eliminated with the help of a special electric contact grease. Use tips provided in the illustrated PDF tutorial on Opel Zafira repair.
  • Broken rear-door rubber grommet of A F75 cars causes rear power windows failure. Their operation can be restored by contacts replacement.
