How to change rear wheel bearing on OPEL MERIVA A [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Wheel Bearing for Meriva A (X03) and other OPEL models
Replacement: wheel bearing – Opel Meriva X03. AUTODOC experts recommend:
Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your Opel Meriva X03 car.
The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
Please note: all work on the car – Opel Meriva X03 – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 3
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Opel Meriva X03
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7
Release the parking brake cable. Use water pump pliers. Use a crowbar.
Step 8
Unscrew the brake caliper fastening. Use a combination spanner #13. Use a combination spanner #17.
Step 9
Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
Step 10
Remove the brake caliper.
Replacement: wheel bearing – Opel Meriva X03. Tip from AUTODOC:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur. Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
Step 11
Remove the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
Step 12
Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: wheel bearing – Opel Meriva X03. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 13
Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #Е20. Use a tap wrench.
Step 14
Remove the caliper bracket.
Step 15
Clean the brake disc fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 16
Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use Torx T30. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 17
Remove the brake disc. Use a hammer.
Step 18
Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring.
Step 19
Detach the ABS sensor connector. Use a crowbar.
Step 20
Clean the fasteners of the wheel hub bearing. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 21
Unscrew the hub bearing nuts. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 22
Unscrew the fastener of the ABS wiring harness bracket. Use a drive socket #Е8. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 23
Remove the ABS wiring harness bracket.
Step 24
Remove the hub bearing together with the brake disc protection plate.
Step 25
Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 26
Detach the hub bearing from the brake disc protection plate. Use a hammer.
Step 27
Treat the fasteners of the wheel hub bearing. Use copper grease.
Step 28
Install a new wheel hub bearing.
Step 29
Install the hub bearing together with the brake disc protection plate.
Step 30
Screw in the hub bearing nuts. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 31
Tighten the hub bearing nuts. Use a drive socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 50 Nm torque.+45°
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 32
Treat the ABS sensor connector. Use electronic spray.
Step 33
Attach the ABS sensor connector.
Step 34
Install the ABS wiring harness bracket.
Step 35
Tighten the fastener of the ABS wiring harness bracket. Use a drive socket #Е8. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 7 nm torque.
Step 36
Connect the ABS sensor wiring.
Step 37
Treat the fasteners of the wheel hub bearing. Use copper grease.
Step 38
Treat the hub where it contacts the brake disk. Use copper grease.
Step 39
Install the brake disc.
Step 40
Tighten the brake disc fastening. Use Torx T30. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 8 nm torque.
Step 41
Clean the brake caliper bracket from dirt and dust. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.
Replacement: wheel bearing – Opel Meriva X03. Tip from AUTODOC:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 42
Install the brake caliper bracket.
Step 43
Tighten the brake caliper bracket. Use a drive socket #Е20. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 100 nm torque.
Step 44
Install the brake pads.
Step 45
Install the brake caliper and fix it. Use a drive socket #13. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 25 nm torque.
Step 46
Install the parking brake cable into the brake caliper bracket. Use water pump pliers. Use a crowbar.
Step 47
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 48
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: wheel bearing – Opel Meriva X03. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 49
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. Opel Meriva X03
Step 50
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 51
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 Nm torque.
Step 52
Remove the jacks and chocks.
