- Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your Audi A4 B7 Avant car.
- The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: wheel bearing – Audi A4 B7 Avant. Recommended sequence of steps:
- Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. - Step 3
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports. - Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: wheel bearing – Audi A4 B7 Avant. Tip from AUTODOC:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts. - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6
Disconnect the ABS sensor. Use a flat screwdriver. - Step 7
Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring. Use a flat screwdriver. - Step 8
Detach the ABS sensor connector. Use a flat screwdriver. - Step 9
Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring. - Step 10Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 11
Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench. - Step 12Remove the fastening bolts (2 pieces).Step 13
Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.Replacement: wheel bearing – Audi A4 B7 Avant. AUTODOC experts recommend:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur. Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary. - Step 14Clean the brake disc fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 15
Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use Torx T30. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 16
Remove the brake disc. - Step 17Clean the wheel hub fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 18
Unscrew the wheel hub axle nut. Use HEX No.H17. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 19
Remove the fastening bolt. - Step 20
Clean the fastener that connects the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 21
Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. - Step 22
Disconnect the lower arm from the steering knuckle. Use a crowbar. Use a rubber mallet. - Step 23
Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 24Remove the fastening nut. Use a rubber mallet.Step 25
Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 26.1
Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #13.Step 26.2
Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 27
Remove the fastening bolt. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer. - Step 28
Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer. - Step 29
Unscrew the upper arm fastenings. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 30
Remove the fastening bolt. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer. - Step 31
Detach the upper control arm from the steering knuckle. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer. - Step 32
Remove the steering knuckle together with the hub. Use a flat screwdriver. - Step 33
Press the wheel hub out from the tapered roller bearing. Use a bush and bearing driver set. Use a hammer. - Step 34
Unscrew the hub bearing fastening to the steering knuckle. Use XZN #12. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 35Remove the fastening bolts (4 pieces).Step 36
Remove the hub bearing mounting. Use a hammer. - Step 37Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 38
Apply special grease to the bearing assembly mounting seat. Use a multipurpose grease. - Step 39
Install a new hub bearing and secure it. - Step 40
Treat the fasteners of the wheel hub bearing. Use a sealant. - Step 41
Install the fastening bolts (4 pieces). - Step 42
Tighten the fastener of the wheel hub bearing. Use XZN #12. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 80 Nm torque.+90°Replacement: wheel bearing – Audi A4 B7 Avant. AUTODOC recommends:Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.Check to make sure the wheel hub bearing is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment. - Step 43
Press the wheel hub into the bearing inner race. Use a bush and bearing driver set.Replacement: wheel bearing – Audi A4 B7 Avant. Professionals recommend:Stop pressing on the surface of the bearing immediately after it has been fitted into its mounting seat. - Step 44
Install the steering knuckle with a hub in assembly.
