Replacement: front lower arm – Audi A4 B7 Avant. AUTODOC recommends:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: front lower arm – Audi A4 B7 Avant. Recommended sequence of steps:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 3Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
- Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: front lower arm – Audi A4 B7 Avant. AUTODOC experts recommend:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Clean the fastener that connects the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 7Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 8Disconnect the lower arm from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.Step 9Clean the shock strut fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 10Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber strut. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 11Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 12Detach the bottom part of the shock strut.
- Step 13Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 14Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer bar with the control arm. Use a combination spanner #13. Use a combination spanner #16.
- Step 15Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the stabilizer bar. Use a combination spanner #16.
- Step 16Remove the fastening bolt.Step 17Remove the stabilizer rod.Step 18Clean the fasteners connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 19Unscrew the arm fastening from the subframe. Use a combination spanner #18 (2 pieces).
- Step 20Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 21Detach the control arm. Use a crowbar.
- Step 22Remove the fastening nut.Step 23Disconnect the lower arm from the steering knuckle.
- Step 24Remove the arm.
- Step 25Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 26Install a new arm.Replacement: front lower arm – Audi A4 B7 Avant. Tip from AUTODOC experts:During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.Do not damage the ball joint cover.
- Step 27Connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle.Step 28Install the fastening nut.Step 29Attach the control arm. Use a rubber mallet.
