AUDI service and maintenance manuals

Repairing and servicing Audi A4 yourself

Engine

  • Plastic housings of the ignition coils of 4-cylinder petrol motors get cracked. In this case the engine cannot be started. You can mount new components yourself. In addition you need to inspect the spark plugs and replace them if necessary. Our recommendations on Audi A4 DIY repair and servicing will help you with this.
  • Loss of tightness of the radiator and seizure of the water pump bearing occur in V6 motors. Inspect the unit regularly for leaks, only install high-quality components with compatible parameters in order to avoid engine overheating.
  • The air pipe of the turbocharger loses its tightness in 1.8-litre engines. At the same time the engine’s idling becomes unstable, and whistling sound can be heard. Most often the component gets damaged by abrasion with the clamp. You can replace Its fasteners at home. Simply download our free step-by-step instructions on Audi A4 repair and maintenance.

Transmission

  • The Tiptronic automatic transmission may get broken after 200,000 kilometres. By this time, friction discs get worn out, which is indicated by jerks and slip when the gears are shifted. It is recommended to entrust the replacement of the components to specialists.
  • The chain of the Multitronic CVT of the B5 and B6 cars wears out fast. This is usually accompanied by clogging of the filter and oil pump valves. The signs of failure are jerks when accelerating and decelerating. This CVT is sensitive to the quality of the oil, that is why you need to replace the transmission fluid regularly.

Electric equipment

  • The wire located between the car body and the boot lid, may get broken. As a result, the electric lock of the lid is not functioning, in some cases also the license plate light goes off. There may be malfunctions of the interior lighting. The terminals can be replaced easily: see our tips and do all the steps in accordance with those shown in the step-by-step video tutorial on Audi A4 repair.
  • One or more power windows and the central lock may get broken. This occurs due to the terminals being exposed to moisture. Watch our video guide and treat them with an anti-corrosion agent.
  • The immobilizer gets out of order, which makes it impossible to start the engine. The components of this system should be well protected from moisture: take care of the car interior tightness and treat the terminals with a special car care product. Study our illustrated PDF guide on Audi A4 repair to complete this job as quickly as possible.
