How to change rear wheel bearing / rear hub bearing on AUDI A4 B6 (8E5) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
Replacement: wheel bearing – Audi A4 B6 Avant. List of the tools you'll need:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur. Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
Step 9
Remove the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
Step 10
Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 11
Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use HEX No.H8.
Step 12
Remove the caliper bracket.
Step 13
Clean the brake disc fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 14
Remove the retaining ring. Use a crowbar.
Step 15
Remove the brake disc.
Step 16
Remove the hub bearing protection cap. Use a hammer. Use a crowbar.
Replacement: wheel bearing – Audi A4 B6 Avant. Tip from AUTODOC:
Some cars are not equipped with wheel hub caps.
Step 17
Unscrew the hub bearing mounting. Use HEX No.H19. Use a tap wrench.
Step 18
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 19
Remove the hub and the bearing together, since they are a sealed unit.
Step 20
Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 21
Install the new wheel hub with a bearing.
Step 22
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 23
Tighten the fastener of the wheel hub bearing. Use HEX No.H19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 200 Nm torque.+180°
Replacement: wheel bearing – Audi A4 B6 Avant. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.The wheel bearing unit must not tilt on the axle pin.
Step 24
Install the hub bearing protection cap. Use a rubber mallet.
Step 25
Treat the hub where it contacts the brake disk. Use copper grease.
Step 26
Install the brake disc.
Step 27
Install the retaining ring.
Step 28
Clean the brake caliper bracket from dirt and dust. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: wheel bearing – Audi A4 B6 Avant. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 29
Install the brake caliper bracket.
Step 30
Tighten the brake caliper bracket. Use HEX No.H8. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 75 Nm torque.
Step 31
Treat the brake caliper piston. Use a brake cleaner.
Replacement: wheel bearing – Audi A4 B6 Avant. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 32
Press in the brake caliper piston. Use brake caliper wind back tool.
Step 33
Install the brake pads.
Step 34
Install the brake caliper and fix it. Use a drive socket #13. Use a combination spanner #15. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 35 Nm torque.
Step 35
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 36
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: wheel bearing – Audi A4 B6 Avant. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 37
Install the wheel.
Replacement: wheel bearing – Audi A4 B6 Avant. Tip from AUTODOC:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 38
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 39
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.
Step 40
Remove the jacks and chocks.
