Repairing and servicing Audi A6 yourself
Engine
- Destruction of the silumin coating of the pistons and cylinders in FSI engines with direct fuel injection leads to excessive oil consumption. Moreover, engine vibration at idle and power loss occur. The engine should be overhauled at a garage. To ensure proper care of the engine, only use high-quality fuel and be sure to observe the oil change intervals specified by the car manufacturer. - The timing chain hydraulic tensioner quickly gets out of order on the cars with 3.2 litre petrol engines. Our tip is to replace the part as soon as possible, and avoid overloading a cold engine until the replacement has been done.
Body
- Blistering and peeling of the paintwork often occur in the contact areas between the bumpers and wheel arches after 60,000–80,000 kilometres. The problem can be staved off by applying stone chip protection film; which you can do at home. It will protect the body from small stones flying up from the road. Transmission
- Breakdown of the hydraulic unit in the Tiptronic automatic transmission often occurs after 100,000 kilometres.
- The Multitronic CVT gets out of order due to being overloaded by slipping or long-term driving in traffic jams. If the Multitronic gearbox is used in combination with wet clutch, replace the fluid at least every 60,000 km, if otherwise is not specified in the vehicle owner’s manual.
Exterior lighting

- The headlight plastic lenses get cloudy. To extend their lifespan you need to use non-abrasive car care products and soft cloth to clean them. Do not apply excessive force when doing this.
