How to change shock absorbers on a SUZUKI SWIFT 3 – problem-solving [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Shock Absorber for SWIFT III (MZ, EZ) and other SUZUKI models
Replacement: suspension strut – Suzuki Swift MK3. AUTODOC experts recommend:
Both shock struts of the front suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right shock struts of the front suspension.
Please note: all work on the car – Suzuki Swift MK3 – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
Step 3
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Suzuki Swift MK3
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7
Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the shock strut. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 8
Remove the stabilizer rod.
Step 9
Clean the fastener of the bracket that connects the brake hose to the shock strut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 10
Unscrew the brake hose fastening bracket from the shock strut. Use a drive socket #12. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 11
Remove the bracket from the shock absorber strut.
Step 12
Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 13
Clean the fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 14
Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 15
Remove the fastening bolts (2 pieces).
Step 16
Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut.
Step 17
Lower the car.
Step 18
Open the bonnet.
Step 19
Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
Step 20
Remove the clips of the plastic cowl grille. Use a clip removal tool.
Step 21
Remove the wiper cowl grille located on the right side.
Step 22
Remove the protective cap of the shock absorber mount.
Step 23
Clean the fasteners of the shock strut upper mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 24
Unscrew the top fastening of the shock strut mount. Use a combination spanner #18. Use HEX No.H6. Use a ratchet wrench.

Important! Hold the suspension strut while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Suzuki Swift MK3
Step 25
Remove the suspension strut.
Step 26
Set the shock absorber strut on the spring compressor tool.
Replacement: suspension strut – Suzuki Swift MK3. Professionals recommend:
Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles.
Step 27
Compress the spring.
Step 28
Treat the shock strut rod. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 29
Remove the strut piston rod nut. Use a combination spanner #17. Use HEX No.H6. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 30
Remove the top strut mount.
Step 31
Release the coil spring.
Step 32
Remove the spring.
Step 33
Remove the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop.
Step 34
Remove the old shock absorber from the hydraulic coil spring compressor.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: suspension strut – Suzuki Swift MK3. Carefully inspect the mount, the boot, and the bump stop of the shock absorber. Replace if necessary.Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it manually 3-5 times.
Step 35
Install the dust sleeve and the bump stop on the new shock absorber.
Step 36
Install the new shock absorber on the hydraulic coil spring compressor.
Step 37
Install the spring on the shock absorber.
Step 38
Compress the spring.
Step 39
Install the upper strut mount and the strut mount bearing.
Step 40
Tighten the shock strut piston rod nut. Use a combination spanner #17. Use HEX No.H6. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 50 Nm torque.
Replacement: suspension strut – Suzuki Swift MK3. Tip:
Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
Step 41
Decompress the spring.
Step 42
Remove the assembled shock strut.
Step 43
Install the shock strut into the wheel arch.
Step 44
Screw the top fastening of the shock strut mount.

Important! Hold the suspension strut while screwing in the fastening bolts. Suzuki Swift MK3
Step 45
Tighten the upper fastener of the shock absorber strut mount. Use a combination spanner #18. Use HEX No.H6. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 50 Nm torque.
Step 46
Install the protective cap of the shock absorber mount.
Step 47
Install and secure the wiper cowl grille located on the right side.
Step 48
Install the fasteners of the wiper plastic cowl grille.
Step 49
Remove the fender protection cover.
Step 50
Close the hood.
Step 51
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 52
Fix the shock absorber strut on the steering knuckle.
Step 53
Install the fastening bolts (2 pieces).
Step 54
Tighten the lower fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 90 Nm torque.
Step 55
Install the bracket onto the shock absorber strut.
Step 56
Tighten the brake hose fastening bracket to the shock strut. Use a drive socket #12. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 57
Connect the ABS sensor wiring.
Step 58
Ιnstall the transverse stabilizer link.
Step 59
Tighten the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the shock strut. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #15. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 50 Nm torque.
Step 60
Treat the shock strut fasteners. Treat all joints of the stabiliser link. Use copper grease.
Step 61
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 62
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: suspension strut – Suzuki Swift MK3. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 63
Install the wheel.

Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. Suzuki Swift MK3
Step 64
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
Step 65
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 85 nm torque.
Step 66
Remove the jacks and chocks.
