How to change a shock strut mount repair kit on FIAT PUNTO TUTORIAL | AUTODOC
All the parts you need to replace – Strut Mount for PUNTO (188) and other FIAT models
Replacement: strut mount – Fiat Punto 188. AUTODOC recommends:
The replacement procedure is identical for the mounts of the left and right shock struts of the front suspension.
Be sure to replace all self-locking nuts and bolts during installation.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: strut mount – Fiat Punto 188. Use the following procedure:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 3
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Fiat Punto 188
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Disconnect the fastener of the ABS sensor cable from the shock absorber strut. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 7
Disconnect the brake hose holder from the shock absorber strut. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 8.1
Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber strut.
Step 8.2
Use a drive socket #15. Use a combination spanner #17.
Step 9
Remove the fastening bolts. Use a hammer.
Step 10
Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 11
Lower the car.
Step 12
Open the hood.
Step 13
Unscrew the upper fastening of the shock absorber strut. Use a combination spanner #19. Use a tap wrench.
Replacement: strut mount – Fiat Punto 188. Tip:
To avoid injuries, hold the shock strut when undoing the fastening bolts.
Step 14
Remove the suspension strut.
Step 15
Set the shock absorber strut on the spring compressor tool.
Replacement: strut mount – Fiat Punto 188. AUTODOC experts recommend:
Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles.
Step 16
Compress the spring.
Step 17
Unscrew the top fastening of the shock strut mount. Use a combination spanner #27. Use a tap wrench.
Step 18
Remove the top strut mount.
Step 19
Clean the mounting seat of the shock strut mount. Use a wire brush.
Step 20
Install a new strut mount.
Step 21
Tighten the upper fastener of the shock absorber strut mount. Use a combination spanner #27. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 55 Nm torque.
Replacement: strut mount – Fiat Punto 188. Tip from AUTODOC:
Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
Step 22
Decompress the spring.
Step 23
Remove the assembled shock strut.
Step 24
Install the shock strut into the wheel arch.
Step 25
Screw the top fastening of the shock strut mount. Do not tighten it.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the suspension strut while screwing in the fastening bolts. Fiat Punto 188
Step 26
Tighten the upper fastener of the shock absorber strut mount. Use a combination spanner #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 55 nm torque.
Step 27
Close the hood.
Step 28
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 29
Fix the shock absorber strut on the steering knuckle. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 30
Install the fastening bolts.
Step 31.1
Tighten the lower fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle.
Step 31.2
Use a drive socket #15. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 75 Nm torque.
Step 32
Fasten the brake hose on the strut.
Step 33
Connect the fastener of the ABS sensor cable to the shock absorber strut.
Step 34
Treat the shock strut fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 35
Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Treat the contacting surface. Use copper grease.
Step 36
Install the wheel.
Replacement: strut mount – Fiat Punto 188. Professionals recommend:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 37
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 38
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 98 Nm torque.
Step 39
Remove the jacks and chocks.
