How to change front suspension arm / front control arm on RENAULT SCENIC 2 (JM) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Control Arm for SCÉNIC II (JM0/1_) and other RENAULT models
Replacement: front lower arm – Renault Scenic 2. AUTODOC experts recommend:
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
Warning! Shut down the engine before starting any work – Renault Scenic 2.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Open the bonnet.
Step 2
Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
Step 3
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 4
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 5
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 6
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
Replacement: front lower arm – Renault Scenic 2. Tip:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 7
Remove the wheel.
Step 8
Unscrew and remove the wheel arch cover fasteners. Use Torx T20. Use a clip removal tool.
Step 9
Remove the wheel arch cover.
Step 10
Unscrew the fasteners of the lower sound insulation. Use a drive socket #10.
Step 11
Remove the lower sound insulation.
Step 12
Clean the fasteners of the bumper reinforcement bar and of its bracket. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: front lower arm – Renault Scenic 2. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.Wear protective goggles.
Step 13
Unscrew the fasteners of the bumper reinforcement bar bracket. Use a drive socket #13.
Step 14
Support the lower radiator support to prevent it from falling when removing the bumper reinforcement bar. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 15
Loosen the fastener connecting the bumper reinforcement bar to the lower radiator support. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 16
Unscrew the fasteners connecting the bumper reinforcement bar to the subframe. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 17
Detach and pull aside the bumper reinforcement bar. Use a crowbar.
Step 18
Clean the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 19
Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 20
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 21
Detach the ABS sensor wiring from the suspension control arm. Use a clip removal tool.
Step 22
Clean the fasteners connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 23
Unscrew the front arm fastener. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #E16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 24
Remove the fastening bolt. Use a crowbar.
Step 25
Clean the control arm fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 26
Unscrew the rear arm fastener. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 27
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 28
Remove the arm. Use a crowbar.
Step 29
Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush.
Step 30
Install a new arm. Use a crowbar. Use a rubber mallet.
AUTODOC recommends:
During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.Do not damage the ball joint cover.
Step 31
Install the front fastener of the arm.
Step 32
Screw the front arm fastener. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #E16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 33
Install the bumper reinforcement bar. Use a crowbar.
Step 34
Screw in the fastener connecting the bumper reinforcement bar to the lower radiator support.
Step 35
Remove the support from under the lower radiator support.
Replacement: front lower arm – Renault Scenic 2. AUTODOC recommends:
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.
Step 36
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 37
Install the fastening bolt. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16.
Step 38
Install the rear fastener of the control arm.
Step 39
Screw the rear arm fastener. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18.
Step 40
Raise the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm.
Step 41
Tighten the front fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #13. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 70 nm torque.
Step 42
Tighten the rear fastener connecting the arm to the body subframe. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 105 nm torque.
Step 43
Tighten the ball joint fastener. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 62 nm torque.
Step 44
Remove the support from under the arm.
Replacement: front lower arm – Renault Scenic 2. AUTODOC experts recommend:
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.
Step 45
Connect the ABS sensor wiring.
Step 46
Tighten the fastener connecting the bumper reinforcement bar to the subframe. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 47
Tighten the fastener connecting the bumper reinforcement bar to the lower radiator support. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 75 nm torque.
Step 48
Screw in the fastener of the bumper reinforcement bar bracket. Use a drive socket #13.
Step 49
Treat all joints of the arm. Use copper grease.
Step 50
Install the wheel arch cover to its mounting seat.
Step 51
Install and tighten the wheel arch cover fasteners. Use Torx T20.
Step 52
Install the lower sound insulation.
Step 53
Screw in the fasteners of the lower sound insulation. Use a drive socket #10.
Step 54
Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Treat the contacting surface. Use copper grease.
Step 55
Install the wheel.
Replacement: front lower arm – Renault Scenic 2. Professionals recommend:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 56
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 57
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 nm torque.
Step 58
Remove the jacks and chocks.
Step 59
Remove the fender protection cover.
Step 60
Close the hood.
