DIY repair and maintenance of your Renault Scenic

Engine

  • The timing belt is a wear part. Carry out a visual inspection regularly: cracks indicate it needs replacement. It’s better to entrust the installation of a new part and pulleys to professionals. At the same time, there are plenty of engine maintenance jobs you can handle yourself, such as changing the oil or spark plugs. Our illustrated PDF manual on Renault Scenic repair can help you.
  • Fuel injectors in diesel engines can get clogged. Smoke from the exhaust pipe when starting the engine and unstable idling rpm are signs of malfunctions in the fuel injection system. The fuel injectors should be replaced at a garage, as they require adjustment. In order to extend the working lifespan of the parts, we recommend using only high-quality fuel.

Suspension

  • Premature wear of strut mount bearings can occur. You’ll notice knocking sounds coming from the area of the part when driving on uneven roads. You can replace the components yourself if you download our step-by-step video tutorial on Renault Scenic repair. Avoid driving off-road in the future.
  • Stabilizer link bushes wear out after 50,000 km. This causes a screeching sound when driving. It is advisable to install new components on both axles.

Electric equipment

  • The alternator can break down prematurely. If the car battery stops charging, or conversely, is overcharging, you need to replace the alternator as soon as possible. You can perform this job yourself if you’ve downloaded our video guide. Inspect the drive belt and tensioner pulleys for damage during DIY Renault Scenic repair and maintenance.
  • Separate elements of the wing mirror heating system can wear out. You can remove the housing and replace broken elements with new ones in your garage.

Body

  • The bodywork of JM and JZ cars is not known for its durability. Scratches and shears can appear due to the influence of abrasive chemical products. In order to extend the working lifespan, you can apply a protective transparent film on the bonnet and wings, and avoid the use of aggressive car care products.
  • The bonnet lock can stop working. You can try lubricating it, and replace if it that doesn't help. You can handle this job easily by following our instructions on Renault Scenic repair and maintenance step by step.
