Replacement: coil springs – TOYOTA AURIS (NZE18_, ZRE18_). AUTODOC experts recommend:
- Both coil springs of the front suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right coil springs of the front suspension.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: coil springs – TOYOTA AURIS (NZE18_, ZRE18_). Use the following procedure:
- Step 1Open the bonnet.Step 2Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.Step 3Clean the fasteners of the shock strut upper mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 4Loosen the upper fastener of the shock strut mount. Use a combination spanner #14.
- Step 5Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 6Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
- Step 7Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 8Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: coil springs – TOYOTA AURIS (NZE18_, ZRE18_). Tip:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
- Step 9Remove the wheel.
- Step 10Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 11Disconnect the wiring and the brake hose from the bracket on the shock strut. Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 12Clean the fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 13Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the shock strut. Use a combination spanner #17. Use HEX No.H6. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 14Remove the stabilizer rod.Replacement: coil springs – TOYOTA AURIS (NZE18_, ZRE18_). Tip from AUTODOC experts:Examine stabiliser bushes. Replace them if needed.
- Step 15Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #22. Use a drive socket #22. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 16Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
- Step 17Remove the fastening bolts.
- Step 18Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut.
- Step 19Unscrew the top fastening of the shock strut mount.AUTODOC recommends:TOYOTA AURIS (NZE18_, ZRE18_) – To avoid injury, hold the suspension strut while unscrewing the fastening bolts.
- Step 20Remove the suspension strut.
- Step 21Set the shock absorber strut on the spring compressor tool.Replacement: coil springs – TOYOTA AURIS (NZE18_, ZRE18_). AUTODOC experts recommend:Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles.
- Step 22Compress the spring.
- Step 23Remove the shock strut mount cap. Use a crowbar.
- Step 24Treat the shock strut rod. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 25Remove the strut piston rod nut. Use a chain wrench. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 26Remove the shock absorber mount, boot and bump stop. Use a crowbar.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: coil springs – TOYOTA AURIS (NZE18_, ZRE18_). Carefully inspect the mount, the boot, and the bump stop of the shock absorber. Replace if necessary.
- Step 27Release the coil spring.
- Step 28Remove the spring.
- Step 29Install the spring on the shock absorber.
- Step 30Compress the spring.
- Step 31Install the mount, the boot and the bump stop on the shock absorber.
- Step 32Tighten the shock strut piston rod nut. Use a chain wrench. Use a drive socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 47 Nm torque.Replacement: coil springs – TOYOTA AURIS (NZE18_, ZRE18_). Tip:Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
- Step 33Treat the shock strut rod. Use copper grease.
- Step 34Install the shock strut mount cap.
- Step 35Decompress the spring.
