Replacement: ball joint – Volvo XC90 1. Tip:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right ball joints.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: ball joint – Volvo XC90 1. Take the following steps:
- Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. - Step 3
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports. - Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Volvo XC90 1 - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6
Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 7
Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 8
Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 9Remove the fastening bolts.Step 10
Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer. Use a crowbar. - Step 11
Disconnect the spherical joint from the arm. Use a ball joint puller. - Step 12
Remove the ball joint. Use a crowbar. - Step 13
Clean the ball joint mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 14
Install a new ball joint. Use a crowbar.Replacement: ball joint – Volvo XC90 1. Professionals recommend:Do not damage the ball joint cover. - Step 15
Attach the ball joint to the control arm. Use a crowbar.
