Replacement: ball joint – SEAT LEON (1M1). Tip:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right ball joints.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: ball joint – SEAT LEON (1M1). Take the following steps:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 3Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. SEAT LEON (1M1)
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Clean the ball joint fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 7Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18.
- Step 8Loosen the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a drive socket #30. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 9Remove the drive shaft. Use a pin punch. Use a rubber mallet.
- Step 10Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 11Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the control arm. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 12Remove the fastening bolt.Step 13Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
- Step 14Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 15Remove the fastening bolts.Step 16Remove the ball joint.
- Step 17Clean the ball joint mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 18Install a new ball joint.AUTODOC recommends:Do not damage the ball joint cover.
