How to change front suspension arm on SEAT LEON 1M1 [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Control Arm for Leon Hatchback (1M1) and other SEAT models
Replacement: front lower arm – Seat Leon 1M1. AUTODOC experts recommend:
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: front lower arm – Seat Leon 1M1. Take the following steps:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a tap wrench.
Step 3
Raise the car.
Replacement: front lower arm – Seat Leon 1M1. Tip:
If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean the control arm fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7
Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the control arm. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 8
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 9
Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #19.
Step 10
Unscrew the front fastener of the control arm. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 11
Unscrew the rear fastener of the control arm. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 12
Remove the fastening bolts.
Step 13
Remove the fastening nut.
Step 14
Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller. Use a crowbar.
Step 15
Remove the control arm. Use a crowbar.
Step 16
Clean the suspension arm mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 17
Install the new control arm. Use a rubber mallet.
Step 18
Install the fastening bolts.
Step 19
Connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle.
Step 20
Install the fastening nut.
Step 21
Support the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Replacement: front lower arm – Seat Leon 1M1. AUTODOC experts recommend:
For tightening the fasteners correctly, you have to jack up the suspension components to their working position.
Step 22
Tighten the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 45 Nm torque.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 23
Tighten the front fastener of the arm. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 70 Nm torque.+90°
Replacement: front lower arm – Seat Leon 1M1. AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 24
Tighten the rear fastener of the control arm. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 70 Nm torque.+90°

Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 25
Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.
Replacement: front lower arm – Seat Leon 1M1. Professionals recommend:
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.
Step 26
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 27
Tighten the fastener connecting the sway bar link to the suspension arm. Use a drive socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 30 Nm torque.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 28
Tighten the fasteners connecting the ball joint to the control arm. Use a drive socket #13. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 20 Nm torque.+90°
Replacement: front lower arm – Seat Leon 1M1. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 29
Treat all joints of the arm. Use copper grease.
Step 30
Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush.
Step 31
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use ceramic grease.
Step 32
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
Step 33
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts. Seat Leon 1M1
Step 34
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 35
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.
Step 36
Remove the jacks and chocks.
