- All the work should be carried out with the ignition switched off.
Replacement: ball joint – Renault Master 2 van. Recommended sequence of steps:
- Step 1
If you are going to use a jack, secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 2
Loosen the wheel fasteners. Use a 24 mm wheel impact socket. Use a tommy bar. - Step 3
Raise the car.Replacement: ball joint – Renault Master 2 van. AUTODOC recommends:If you are using a jack, make sure the car is parked on a hard, flat surface.Make sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands. - Step 4
Unscrew the wheel fasteners.Caution!To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the fasteners. - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6
Support the steering knuckle. Use a transmission jack or one more vehicle jack. - Step 7
Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 8
Unscrew the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use an 18 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 9
Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a 21 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 10
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 11
Remove the shock absorber. - Step 12
Clean the fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 13
Loosen the fastener that connects the control arm to the subframe. Use a 30 mm socket. Use a tommy bar. - Step 14
Clean the fastener that connects the lower ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 15Clean the lower fastener of the brake caliper bracket. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 16
Unscrew the lower fastener of the brake caliper bracket. Use an 18 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 17
Remove the fastening bolt. - Step 18
Unscrew the pinch bolt that connects the lower ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a 16 mm combination spanner. Use an E16 Torx socket. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 19
Remove the pinch bolt. - Step 20
Lower the transmission jack or the second vehicle jack by 10–15 cm.Replacement: ball joint – Renault Master 2 van. Tip:Lower the transmission or vehicle jack smoothly without jerking it to avoid damaging the vehicle assemblies and mechanisms. - Step 21
Disconnect the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle. - Step 22
Clean the lower ball joint mounting seat on the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray. - Step 23
Remove the retaining ring from the ball joint boot. Use a slotted screwdriver. - Step 24
Remove the ball joint boot. Use a slotted screwdriver. - Step 25
Disconnect the ball joint from the control arm. Use a ball joint C-frame press kit. - Step 26
Clean the lower ball joint mounting seat on the control arm. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray. - Step 27
Install a new ball joint. Use a ball joint C-frame press kit.Warning!Be careful not to damage the dust boot when pressing the joint in.
