How to change front ball joint on RENAULT MEGANE SCENIC [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Suspension Ball Joint for MEGANE Scenic (JA0/1_) and other RENAULT models
Replacement: ball joint – Renault Megane Scenic. AUTODOC experts recommend:
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right ball joints.
Please note: all work on the car – Renault Megane Scenic – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 3
Raise the car.
Replacement: ball joint – Renault Megane Scenic. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Renault Megane Scenic
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7
Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 8
Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 9
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 10
Clean the fasteners connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 11
Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 12
Release the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a crowbar.
Step 13
Disconnect the ball joint from the control arm.
Step 14
Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.
Step 15
Clean the ball joint mounting seat. Use a wire brush.
Step 16
Install a new ball joint.
Replacement: ball joint – Renault Megane Scenic. AUTODOC experts recommend:
Do not damage the ball joint cover.
Step 17
Treat the fasteners of the ball joint. Use copper grease.
Step 18
Connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle.
Step 19
Attach the ball joint to the control arm.
Step 20
Screw in the fastener connecting the ball joint to the control arm. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 21
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 22
Screw the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 23
Tighten the brake caliper bracket. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 100 Nm torque.
Step 24
Tighten the fasteners connecting the ball joint to the control arm. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 75 Nm torque.
Step 25
Tighten the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 55 Nm torque.
Step 26
Treat the fasteners of the ball joint. Use copper grease.
Step 27
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 28
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: ball joint – Renault Megane Scenic. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 29
Install the wheel.

Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. Renault Megane Scenic
Step 30
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 31
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 90 Nm torque.
Step 32
Remove the jacks and chocks.
Replacement: ball joint – Renault Megane Scenic. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
After replacing the component, it is advisable to realign the wheels using a wheel aligner.
