DTC P0017 is set when the signals from the car's crankshaft position (CKP) sensorand exhaust camshaft position (CMP) sensor on cylinder bank1 do not correlate with each other. This is usually when the position signals vary by more than 10 degrees. The crankshaft and camshaft are timed with precision and are supposed to operate in synchronisation. When they are out of sync, the fuel delivery, mixing and ignition processes are disrupted. It is therefore important to pay attention to this code.
What causes code P0017?It means that the signals from the crankshaft and camshaft position sensors don’t match. The DTC is normally triggered when the control module detects a variation of more than 10 degrees.
You can reset the codes by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 15 minutes or using an OBD2 scan tool. If the DTC reappears after a short test drive, find the cause of the problem and repair the vehicle. Once it is fixed, you can clear the error using the diagnostic scanner.
It is possible to drive the vehicle for short periods of time but not recommended. The sooner the car is repaired, the easier it will be to avoid engine damage and regain efficiency.
Fault code P0017 - Crankshaft Position–Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1, Sensor B) can occur with any car but is most often found on the following cars:
If you get the code P0017 on your car, make sure that the diagnostics are carried out correctly and the error is still relevant. Check for symptoms associated with the problem and explore options for resolving it.
