Failing to get your alternator checked in time can result in its malfunctioning and a constantly undercharged or fully discharged battery which eventually fails. If any of these happen, it will be impossible to start your car in the normal way.
All work must be carried out with the engine switched off and cooled down.
Do not disconnect the battery terminals while the engine is running.
Insulate the battery terminals to avoid short circuits.
1.
Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
2.
Remove all components that obstruct access to the alternator and its belt-tensioning mechanism.
3.
Loosen the tension of the alternator drive belt.
4.
Remove the alternator drive belt.
5.
Disconnect the wiring after detaching its retainers.
6.
Unscrew the alternator fasteners.
7.
Remove the alternator.
8.
Install the new component.
9.
Secure the alternator fasteners.
10.
Connect the wiring by securing the retainers.
11.
Install the alternator drive belt.
12.
Adjust the tension of the alternator drive belt.
13.
Reinstall all the components that were removed in reverse order.
