DIY Renault repair: common malfunctions

Renault cars are comfortable, safe and rich in features. There are a lot of unusual solutions implemented into their construction. You can eliminate most of the malfunctions the cars of this make may have yourself. AUTODOC Club tips, video guides and illustrated PDF Renault repair manuals will help you with that.

Engine

One of the most common problems causing the engine malfunctions in many models, including Renault Logan and Renault Duster, is the ignition coil failure. Breakdown of the camshaft dephaser pulley of Renault Mégane results in a lower vehicle performance, increased fuel consumption and a specific crackle immediately after the engine start. A crankshaft pulley fails early as well. Starter may malfunction from time to time, thus causing power unit start issues.

Another weak spot of Renault cars is a leaking valve cover gasket. To ensure flawless engine work, you should change the oil, spark plugs and oil filter in time. You can install many components at home with the help of a step-by-step video tutorial on Renault repair.

Engine operation is significantly affected by the condition of the throttle body. If it gets dirty, the engine RPM band may randomly increase and decrease, which is especially obvious in cold weather. You can clean the throttle body yourself. We also recommend you installing new sealing elements while cleaning this component. After that, adjust the throttle valve.

Suspension

Stabilizer bar links and bushings are weak spots of the Renault cars suspension. If you often drive on poor-quality roads, the shock absorbers may leak, and springs get sagged over time. Following Renault repair and operation instructions step by step, you will be able to replace these parts yourself, without visiting a car repair shop.

Body

Quick wear-outr of the windscreen wiper blades is typical of Renault Logan cars. Download DIY Renault repair and maintenance manual from AUTODOC Club for free to properly replace these components. Paintwork is far from perfect as well: you will see the scratches not long after you have started using your car.

Brake system

Its weak spots are brake pads which are apt to uneven wear-out and brake force regulator, which starts squeaking after 10,000 kilometres. We recommend you greasing it from time to time to prevent the problem.
