Raise the engine cover, holding it on two sides simultaneously.
Step 4
Unscrew the oil filler plug.
Step 5
Lift the car using a jack or place it over an inspection pit.
AUTODOC recommends:
The vehicle must be on even keel, and if it is at an angle, the drain plug must be at the lowest point.All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Step 6
Put a waste oil container with at least 5 l capacity under the drainage hole.
Step 7
Unscrew the drain plug. Use a combination spanner #19.
Step 8
Drain the used oil.
Replacement: engine oil and filter – VW Passat Variant B6. Tip from AUTODOC:
Caution! The oil may be hot.Wait until the oil has completely drained from the drainage hole.
Step 9
Unscrew the vacuum system bracket. Use Torx T20. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 10
Move the vacuum system components aside.
Step 11
Clean the oil filter housing cap. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 12
Unscrew the filter housing cap together with the old filter element. Use a drive socket #32. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 13
Prepare a container for the old oil filter.
Step 14
Remove the oil filter.
Step 15
Put the old filter cartridge in the container.
Step 16
Detach the oil filter from the filter cover.
Step 17
Remove the oil filter cover O-ring. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 18
Clean the oil filter housing cap. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 19
Clean the area of the oil pan drainage hole.
Step 20
Screw in the new drainage plug and tighten it. Use a drive socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 28 Nm torque.
Step 21
Clean the area of the oil pan drainage hole. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 22
Lower the car.
Step 23
Install a new O-ring to its mounting seat on the filter cover.
Step 24
Install the new oil filter to the mounting seat on the filter cover.
Please note!
Make sure to install the filter correctly. Don't mix up the sides of the part.
Step 25
Lubricate the rubber seal of the new filter with a little amount of fresh oil.
Step 26
Screw the new filter into its place.
Step 27
Install a new oil filter housing cover and tighten it. Use a drive socket #32. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 25 Nm torque.
Step 28
Return the vacuum system components to the original position.
Step 29
Screw in the vacuum system bracket. Use Torx T20. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 30
Install the engine cover and secure it.
AUTODOC recommends:
Make sure the engine cover is properly seated. It should not be displaced with respect to the guiding fasteners.Replacement: engine oil and filter – VW Passat 3C B6 Variant. Do not use excessive force during installation. This may damage the fasteners.
Step 31
Remove the oil filler cap.
Step 32
Insert the funnel.
Step 33
Pour oil into the engine through the filler. Required amount of oil: 4.7 l.
Replacement: engine oil and filter – Passat 3C5. Tip from AUTODOC:
Use the oil recommended by the manufacturer.
Step 34
Check the oil level using the dipstick. Top up oil if necessary.
Please note!
The oil level should be between the Min and Max marks.
Step 35
Install the oil filler cap.
Step 36
Tighten the oil filler cap.
Step 37
Run the engine for a few minutes. After the oil pressure warning light goes out, stop the engine.
Step 38
Check the oil level 5 minutes after the stop of the engine operation using a dipstick and add oil if necessary.
Please note!
The oil level should be between the Min and Max marks.Make sure that the oil filler cap is properly tightened.Check the threaded plug of the drainage hole and the oil filter seal for tightness. If necessary, carefully tighten them up.
Note that oil pressure warning light, which indicates insufficient pressure in the lubrication system, may be on for a longer time than usual. After a few seconds, the oil will fill all the channels, and the light will go out. To protect the environment from pollution, be sure to dispose of the used filters at special collection points.
