Replacement: engine oil and filter – FORD S-Max Mk1 MPV. AUTODOC experts recommend:
- Replace the oil filter every time you change the engine oil.
- Before getting down to work, warm up the engine to reduce the viscosity of the oil.
- Wear gloves to prevent contact with hot liquid.
- Warning! Shut down the engine before starting any work – FORD S-Max Mk1 MPV.
Carry out the replacement steps as follows:
- Step 1Open the bonnet.Step 2Use a fender protection cover to avoid damaging the paintwork and plastic parts of the car.Step 3Unscrew the oil filler cap.
- Step 4Pull up the oil dipstick.
- Step 5Raise the car using a car lift or place it over an inspection pit.Warning!The vehicle must be level, but if it is at an angle, the drain plug must be at the lowest point.Step 6Put an oil drain pan with a capacity of at least 7 litres under the drain hole.Step 7Clean the area of the oil pan drain hole. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 8Unscrew the drain plug. Use a 13 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 9Drain the used oil.Caution!The oil may be hot.Wait until the oil has completely flowed out of the drain hole.
- Step 10Clean the oil filter cap. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 11Unscrew the filter cap together with the old filter element. Use a 30 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench.Caution!The oil may be hot.
- Step 12Remove the filter element from the filter cap. Remove the old O-ring of the oil filter cap. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 13Remove the O-ring from the drain plug. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 14Clean the oil filter cap. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 15Clean the drain plug. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 16Install a new O-ring on the drain plug.
- Step 17Install a new O-ring on the oil filter cap.
- Step 18Lubricate the new O-ring with a small amount of fresh oil.
- Step 19Install a new filter element into the oil filter cap.
- Step 20Clean the oil filter mounting seat. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
