Replacement: spark plugs – TOYOTA CARINA II (_T17_). Tip from AUTODOC:
- The replacement procedure is the same for all spark plugs.
- Please note: all work on the car – TOYOTA CARINA II (_T17_) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the bonnet.Step 2Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.Step 3
Release the air filter cover clips. - Step 4
Disconnect the air intake pipe from the air filter housing. - Step 5
Take off the filter lid. - Step 6
Cover the air intake hose with a microfibre towel to prevent dust and dirt from getting into the system. - Step 7
Clean the ignition coils. - Step 8
Unscrew the fasteners of the wiring harness bracket. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 9
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 10
Remove the oil dipstick. - Step 11
Move the wiring harness bracket aside. - Step 12
Insert the oil dipstick. - Step 13
Unplug the connectors from the ignition coils. - Step 14
Unscrew the fasteners of the ignition coils. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 15
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 16
Take out the ignition coils from the spark plug wells.Replacement: spark plugs – TOYOTA CARINA II (_T17_). Professionals recommend:Remember the sequence of steps for ignition coil demounting. - Step 17
Clean dirt, dust and debris from inside the spark plug wells. - Step 18
Unscrew the spark plugs. Use the spark plug socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 19
Take out the spark plugs. - Step 20
Apply a thin layer of a special high temperature anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the new spark plugs. - Step 21
Install the new spark plugs into their mounting seats.AUTODOC recommends:Lower the spark plugs into the wells carefully, making sure not to damage the electrode gap. - Step 22
Screw new spark plugs and tighten them. Use the spark plug socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 18 nm torque.Replacement: spark plugs – TOYOTA CARINA II (_T17_). Tip from AUTODOC:Don't tighten the plugs with excessive force. Exceeding tightening torque can damage the thread connection. Be careful when working with a spark plug wrench. Its skewing can cause damage to the threaded connection. - Step 23
Install the ignition coils to the spark plug wells. - Step 24
Install the fastening bolts.
