Replacement: spark plugs – TOYOTA CARINA II Station Wagon (_T17_). Tip from AUTODOC:
- The replacement procedure is the same for all spark plugs.
- Please note: all work on the car – TOYOTA CARINA II Station Wagon (_T17_) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the bonnet.Step 2Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.Step 3Release the air filter cover clips.
- Step 4Disconnect the air intake pipe from the air filter housing.
- Step 5Take off the filter lid.
- Step 6Cover the air intake hose with a microfibre towel to prevent dust and dirt from getting into the system.
- Step 7Clean the ignition coils.
- Step 8Unscrew the fasteners of the wiring harness bracket. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 9Remove the fastening bolts.
- Step 10Remove the oil dipstick.
- Step 11Move the wiring harness bracket aside.
- Step 12Insert the oil dipstick.
- Step 13Unplug the connectors from the ignition coils.
- Step 14Unscrew the fasteners of the ignition coils. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 15Remove the fastening bolts.
- Step 16Take out the ignition coils from the spark plug wells.Replacement: spark plugs – TOYOTA CARINA II Station Wagon (_T17_). Professionals recommend:Remember the sequence of steps for ignition coil demounting.
- Step 17Clean dirt, dust and debris from inside the spark plug wells.
- Step 18Unscrew the spark plugs. Use the spark plug socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 19Take out the spark plugs.
- Step 20Apply a thin layer of a special high temperature anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the new spark plugs.
- Step 21Install the new spark plugs into their mounting seats.AUTODOC recommends:Lower the spark plugs into the wells carefully, making sure not to damage the electrode gap.
- Step 22Screw new spark plugs and tighten them. Use the spark plug socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 18 nm torque.Replacement: spark plugs – TOYOTA CARINA II Station Wagon (_T17_). Tip from AUTODOC:Don't tighten the plugs with excessive force. Exceeding tightening torque can damage the thread connection. Be careful when working with a spark plug wrench. Its skewing can cause damage to the threaded connection.
- Step 23Install the ignition coils to the spark plug wells.
- Step 24Install the fastening bolts.
