Wheel bearing kit for Transporter T3 Van Diesel (69 hp)

Replacement: wheel bearing – VW TRANSPORTER III Box. Tools you need:

                        Wire brush
                      
                        WD-40 spray
                      
                        All-purpose cleaning spray
                      
                        Brake cleaner 
                      
                        Multipurpose grease
                      
                        Copper grease 
                      
                        Torque wrench
                      
                        Combination spanner #15
                      
                        Drive socket # 13
                      
                        Drive socket # 24
                      
                        HEX bit No.H8
                      
                        Wheel impact socket #17
                      
                        Ratchet wrench
                      
                        Bush and bearing driver set
                      
                        Flat screwdriver
                      
                        Rubber mallet
                      
                        Tap wrench
                      
                        Hammer
                      
                        Hub slide hammer puller
                      
                        Universal puller
                      
                        Crow bar
                      
                        Wheel chock

AUTODOC recommends:

Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your VW TRANSPORTER III Box car.
The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
Please note: all work on the car – VW TRANSPORTER III Box – should be done with the engine switched off.

Carry out replacement in the following order:

Step 1

Secure the wheels with chocks.

Step 2

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 3

Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.

Step 4

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VW TRANSPORTER III Box
Step 5

Remove the wheel.
Step 6

Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7

Unscrew the brake caliper fastening. Use a combination spanner #15. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 8

Remove the brake caliper. Use a crowbar.

Replacement: wheel bearing – VW TRANSPORTER III Box. Professionals recommend:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
Step 9

Remove the brake pads.
Step 10

Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 11

Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use HEX No.H8. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
Step 12

Remove the caliper bracket.
Step 13

Clean the brake disc fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 14

Remove the wheel hub nut cap. Use a hammer. Use a crowbar.
Step 15

Remove the cotter pin securing the hub nut. Use a crowbar. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 16

Unscrew the hub nut. Use a drive socket #24. Use a tap wrench.
Step 17

Remove the brake disc assemled with the wheel hub bearing. Use a crowbar.
Step 18

Clean the stub axle. Use a wire brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 19

Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 20

Press out the wheel hub bearing. Use a bush and bearing driver set. Use a hammer.
Step 21

Remove the bearing inner race from the wheel hub. Remove the inner oil seal of the wheel bearing. Use a universal puller. Use the hub slide hammer puller.
Step 22

Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Step 23

Press fit the new wheel hub bearing into the brake disc. Use a bush and bearing driver set. Use a hammer.

Replacement: wheel bearing – VW TRANSPORTER III Box. Tip:
Check to make sure the wheel hub bearing is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment. Stop pressing on the surface of the bearing immediately after it has been fitted into its mounting seat.
Step 24

Install the inner race of the wheel bearing into the hub. Use a bush and bearing driver set. Use a hammer.
Step 25

Treat the wheel hub bearing. Use a multipurpose grease.
Step 26

Press in the inner oil seal of the wheel bearing. Use a bush and bearing driver set. Use a hammer.
Step 27

Install the brake disc assembled with the wheel hub bearing.

Step 28

Adjust the wheel bearing.

Step 29

Screw on the hub nut. Use a drive socket #24. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 30

Install a new hub nut cotter pin. Use a hammer. Use a crowbar.
Step 31

Install the cap of the hub nut. Use a rubber mallet.
Step 32

Clean the brake caliper bracket from dirt and dust. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: wheel bearing – VW TRANSPORTER III Box. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 33

Install the brake caliper bracket.

Step 34

Tighten the brake caliper bracket. Use HEX No.H8. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 95 Nm torque.
Step 35

Install the brake pads.
Step 36

Install the brake caliper and fix it. Use a combination spanner #15. Use a drive socket #13. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 35 Nm torque.
Step 37

Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush.
Step 38

Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 39

Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.

Replacement: wheel bearing – VW TRANSPORTER III Box. AUTODOC experts recommend:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 40

Install the wheel.

AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. VW TRANSPORTER III Box
Step 41

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 42

Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 nm torque.

Step 43

Remove the jacks and chocks.
