How to change rear shock absorbers on VOLVO XC90 1 TUTORIAL | AUTODOC

Replacement: shock absorbers – Volvo XC90 1. AUTODOC experts recommend:
- Both shock absorbers of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right shock absorbers of the rear suspension.
- Please note: all work on the car – Volvo XC90 1 – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. - Step 3
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports. - Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Volvo XC90 1 - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack. - Step 7
Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 8
Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 9Raise the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm.Step 10
Remove the fastening bolt. - Step 11Detach the lower part of the shock absorber. Use a flat screwdriver.Step 12
Remove the support from under the arm.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: shock absorbers – Volvo XC90 1. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms. - Step 13
Lower the car. - Step 14
Open the rear door. - Step 15Lower the rear seat.Step 16
Raise the lower lining of the boot. - Step 17
Remove the protective cap of the shock absorber mount. - Step 18Clean the fasteners of the shock absorber upper mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 19
Unscrew the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.AUTODOC recommends:Volvo XC90 1 – To avoid injury, hold the shock absorber while unscrewing the fastening bolts. - Step 20
Remove the shock absorber. - Step 21Clean the shock absorber mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Replacement: shock absorbers – Volvo XC90 1. AUTODOC experts recommend:Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it manually 3-5 times.Step 22
Place the shock absorber in the wheel arch and fasten it.AUTODOC recommends:Volvo XC90 1 – To avoid injury, hold the shock absorber while screwing in the fastening bolts. - Step 23
Tighten the top shock absorber fastening. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 60 Nm torque. - Step 24
Install the protective cap of the shock absorber mount.
