Replacement: shock absorbers – MERCEDES-BENZ VITO Box (638). AUTODOC recommends:
- Both shock absorbers of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right shock absorbers of the rear suspension.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: shock absorbers – MERCEDES-BENZ VITO Box (638). Use the following procedure:
- Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. - Step 3Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: shock absorbers – MERCEDES-BENZ VITO Box (638). Tip:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts. - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6
Support the rear suspension beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack. - Step 7.1
Clean the shock absorber fasteners.Step 7.2
Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 8
Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #21. Use a crowbar. Use a tap wrench. - Step 9
Remove the fastening bolt. - Step 10
Detach the lower part of the shock absorber. Use a crowbar. - Step 11
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: shock absorbers – MERCEDES-BENZ VITO Box (638). Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms. - Step 12
Unscrew the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #21. Use a tap wrench.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the shock absorber while unscrewing the fastening bolts. MERCEDES-BENZ VITO Box (638) - Step 13
Remove the shock absorber.Replacement: shock absorbers – MERCEDES-BENZ VITO Box (638). Tip:Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it manually 3-5 times. - Step 14
Place the shock absorber in the wheel arch and fasten it.Replacement: shock absorbers – MERCEDES-BENZ VITO Box (638). AUTODOC recommends:To avoid injury, hold the shock absorber cautiously tight when screwing in the fastening bolts. - Step 15
Screw the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #21.
