Replacement: wheel bearing – PEUGEOT 205 I (741A/C). Tip from AUTODOC:

Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your PEUGEOT 205 I (741A/C) car.
The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
Please note: all work on the car – PEUGEOT 205 I (741A/C) – should be done with the engine switched off.

Carry out replacement in the following order:

Step 1

Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.

Step 2

Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 3

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 4

Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.

Step 5

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. PEUGEOT 205 I (741A/C)
Step 6

Remove the wheel.
Step 7

Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Step 8

Unscrew the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use Torx T55. Use a tap wrench. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 9

Remove the fastening bolts (2 pieces).

Step 10

Disconnect the brake pad wear sensor plug.
Step 11

Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.

Replacement: wheel bearing – PEUGEOT 205 I (741A/C). Professionals recommend:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur. Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
Step 12

Take out the retainer clip and move the brake hose out of the bracket on the shock strut. Use round-nose pliers.
Step 13

Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring. Use a crowbar.
Step 14

Unscrew the ABS sensor wiring bracket. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 15

Remove the bracket from the suspension strut.
Step 16

Clean the brake disc fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 17

Unscrew the brake disc fasteners. Use a Phillips screwdriver.
Step 18

Remove the brake disc.
Step 19

Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 20

Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 21

Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
Step 22

Clean the fastener that connects the suspension arm to the ball joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Step 23

Unscrew the fastener that connects the suspension arm to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 24

Disconnect the lower control arm from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller. Use a crowbar.
Step 25

Remove the cotter pin securing the hub nut. Use round-nose pliers. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 26

Clean the wheel hub fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Step 27

Unscrew the wheel hub axle nut. Use a drive socket #36. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 28

Remove the fastening nut.

Step 29

Detach the driveshaft from the steering knuckle. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.
Step 30

Unscrew the fastener connecting the ABS sensor to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 31

Remove the ABS sensor from the steering knuckle.
Step 32

Clean the lower fastener connecting the suspension strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Step 33

Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 34

Remove the fastening bolt.

Step 35

Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut. Use a hammer.

Step 36

Remove the steering knuckle together with the hub.
Step 37

Remove the wheel hub from the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set. Use a hammer.
Step 38

Remove the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use round-nose pliers.
Step 39

Press out the wheel hub bearing. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
Step 40

Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Step 41

Treat the mounting seat of the bearing assembly. Use a multipurpose grease.

Step 42

Press the new bearing in the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.

AUTODOC recommends:
Check to make sure the wheel hub bearing is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment. Stop pressing on the surface of the bearing immediately after it has been fitted into its mounting seat.
Step 43

Install the retaining ring on the steering knuckle. Use round-nose pliers.
Step 44

Dismantle the inner bearing race that is remaining on the hub. Use a bush and bearing driver set. Use a bearing separator.

Step 45

Treat the wheel hub mounting seat. Use a multipurpose grease.

Step 46

Install the wheel hub on the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
Step 47

Treat the shock strut mounting seat on the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 48

Install the steering knuckle with a hub in assembly.
Step 49

Support the steering knuckle.
Step 50

Fix the shock absorber strut on the steering knuckle. Use a hammer.
Step 51

Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.

Replacement: wheel bearing – PEUGEOT 205 I (741A/C). Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.
Step 52

Install the fastening bolt.

Step 53

Tighten the lower fasteners of the suspension strut. Use a drive socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 55 Nm torque.
Step 54

Treat the splines of the driveshaft CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 55

Install the steering knuckle on the CV axle.

Step 56

Connect the lower control arm to the steering knuckle.

Step 57

Tighten the fastener that connects the suspension arm to the ball joint. Use a drive socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 45 Nm torque.
Step 58

Install the fastening nut.

Step 59

Tighten the hub. Use a drive socket #36. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 325 Nm torque.
Step 60

Install a new hub nut cotter pin. Use a hammer.
Step 61

Install the ABS sensor on the steering knuckle and secure it. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 62

Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
Step 63

Tighten the fastening nut connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 35 nm torque.
Step 64

Install the bracket on the suspension strut.
Step 65

Tighten the ABS sensor wiring bracket. Use a drive socket #10. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 10 Nm torque.
Step 66

Connect the ABS sensor wiring.
Step 67

Clean the hub. Use a wire brush. Treat the contacting surface. Use copper grease.
Step 68

Install the brake disc.
Step 69

Tighten the brake disc fasteners. Use a Phillips screwdriver. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 10 Nm torque.
Step 70

Fasten the brake hose on the strut.
Step 71

Attach the brake hose retainer clip.

Step 72

Install the brake caliper together with its bracket.
Step 73

Treat the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a sealant.
Step 74

Install the fastening bolts (2 pieces).

Step 75

Tighten the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use Torx T55. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.
Step 76

Connect the brake pad wear sensor plug.
Step 77

Treat the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Treat the steering knuckle fasteners. Treat the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Treat the fasteners connecting the control arm to the steering knuckle. Use copper grease.
Step 78

Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use high-temperature ceramic grease.
Step 79

Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: wheel bearing – PEUGEOT 205 I (741A/C). After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 80

Install the wheel.

Replacement: wheel bearing – PEUGEOT 205 I (741A/C). AUTODOC experts recommend:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 81

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 82

Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 90 nm torque.
Step 83

Remove the jacks and chocks.

AUTODOC recommends:
Check the brake fluid level in the expansion tank and refill if necessary.
Step 84

Tighten the brake fluid reservoir cap. Close the hood.

AUTODOC recommends:
Without starting the engine, press the brake pedal several times until you feel significant resistance.
