Replacement: wheel bearing – NISSAN X-TRAIL (T31). Professionals recommend:

Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your NISSAN X-TRAIL (T31) car.
The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
Please note: all work on the car – NISSAN X-TRAIL (T31) – should be done with the engine switched off.

Carry out replacement in the following order:

Step 1

Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
Step 3

Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.

Step 4

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

Replacement: wheel bearing – NISSAN X-TRAIL (T31). AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 5

Remove the wheel.
Step 6

Clean the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7

Remove the CV axle nut cotter pin. Use a crowbar.
Step 8

Loosen the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a drive socket #32. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 9

Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
Step 10

Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 11

Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
Step 12

Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #19. Use a tap wrench.
Step 13

Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.

Replacement: wheel bearing – NISSAN X-TRAIL (T31). Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur. Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
Step 14

Remove the brake disc.
Step 15

Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a tap wrench.
Step 16

Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 17

Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring. Use a clip removal tool.
Step 18

Remove the wheel arch cover. Use a clip removal tool.
Step 19

Detach the ABS sensor connector. Use a clip removal tool.
Step 20

Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 21

Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut.
Step 22

Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 23

Remove the drive shaft. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.

Replacement: wheel bearing – NISSAN X-TRAIL (T31). Tip:
Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).
Step 24

Remove the fastening nut.
Step 25

Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 26

Remove the steering knuckle together with the hub.
Step 27

Clean the wheel hub fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 28

Clean the ABS sensor mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 29

Unscrew the ABS sensor fastener. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 30

Disconnect the ABS sensor. Use a flat screwdriver. Use water pump pliers.
Step 31

Unscrew the wheel hub axle nut. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
Step 32

Remove the hub and the bearing together, since they are a sealed unit. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.
Step 33

Remove the brake disc baffle plate.
Step 34

Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush.
Step 35

Apply special grease to the bearing assembly mounting seat. Use copper grease.
Step 36

Install the brake disc baffle plate.
Step 37

Install the new wheel hub with a bearing.
Step 38

Screw the wheel hub axle nut. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 39

Tighten the hub. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 70 nm torque.
Step 40

Treat the ABS sensor fastener. Use a multipurpose grease.
Step 41

Connect the ABS sensor.
Step 42

Tighten the fastener that connects the ABS sensor to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #10. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 13 nm torque.
Step 43

Treat the fasteners of the wheel hub bearing. Use copper grease.
Step 44

Release the vice and take out the wheel hub together with the bearing.
Step 45

Install the steering knuckle with a hub in assembly.
Step 46

Clean the splines of the drive shaft CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 47

Install the drive shaft.
Step 48

Fix the shock absorber strut on the steering knuckle.
Step 49

Install the fastening bolts.
Step 50

Screw in the fastener that connects the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 51

Install the fastening bolt.
Step 52

Screw the fasteners of the ball joint. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a tap wrench.
Step 53

Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
Step 54

Screw on the fastening nut that connects the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 55

Connect the ABS sensor wiring.
Step 56

Attach the ABS sensor connector.
Step 57

Install the wheel arch cover to its mounting seat.
Step 58

Tighten the fastening nut connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 35 nm torque.
Step 59

Tighten the lower fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 168 Nm torque.
Step 60

Clean the hub. Treat the contacting surface. Use copper grease.
Step 61

Install the brake disc.
Step 62

Install the brake caliper together with its bracket.
Step 63

Tighten the brake caliper bracket. Use a drive socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 152 Nm torque.
Step 64

Install the fastening nut.
Step 65

Tighten the drive shaft nut. Use a drive socket #32. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 185 nm torque.
Step 66

Install the CV axle nut cotter pin. Use a hammer.
Step 67

Treat the fasteners of the ball joint. Treat the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Treat the shock strut fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 68

Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 69

Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: wheel bearing – NISSAN X-TRAIL (T31). After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 70

Install the wheel.

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts. NISSAN X-TRAIL (T31)
Step 71

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
Step 72

Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 112 Nm torque.
Step 73

Remove the jacks and chocks.
