Replacement: wheel bearing – NISSAN X-TRAIL (T31). Professionals recommend:
- Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your NISSAN X-TRAIL (T31) car.
- The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
- Please note: all work on the car – NISSAN X-TRAIL (T31) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
- Step 3Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: wheel bearing – NISSAN X-TRAIL (T31). AUTODOC recommends:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Clean the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 7Remove the CV axle nut cotter pin. Use a crowbar.
- Step 8Loosen the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a drive socket #32. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 9Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
- Step 10Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 11Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
- Step 12Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #19. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 13Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.Replacement: wheel bearing – NISSAN X-TRAIL (T31). Tip from AUTODOC experts:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur. Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
- Step 14Remove the brake disc.
- Step 15Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 16Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 17Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring. Use a clip removal tool.
- Step 18Remove the wheel arch cover. Use a clip removal tool.
- Step 19Detach the ABS sensor connector. Use a clip removal tool.
- Step 20Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 21Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut.
- Step 22Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 23Remove the drive shaft. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.Replacement: wheel bearing – NISSAN X-TRAIL (T31). Tip:Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).
- Step 24Remove the fastening nut.
- Step 25Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 26Remove the steering knuckle together with the hub.
- Step 27Clean the wheel hub fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 28Clean the ABS sensor mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 29Unscrew the ABS sensor fastener. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 30Disconnect the ABS sensor. Use a flat screwdriver. Use water pump pliers.
- Step 31Unscrew the wheel hub axle nut. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 32Remove the hub and the bearing together, since they are a sealed unit. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.
- Step 33Remove the brake disc baffle plate.
- Step 34Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush.
- Step 35Apply special grease to the bearing assembly mounting seat. Use copper grease.
- Step 36Install the brake disc baffle plate.
- Step 37Install the new wheel hub with a bearing.
- Step 38Screw the wheel hub axle nut. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 39Tighten the hub. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 70 nm torque.
- Step 40Treat the ABS sensor fastener. Use a multipurpose grease.
- Step 41Connect the ABS sensor.
- Step 42Tighten the fastener that connects the ABS sensor to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #10. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 13 nm torque.
- Step 43Treat the fasteners of the wheel hub bearing. Use copper grease.
