Replacement: wheel bearing – FIAT PUNTO (176). Tip from AUTODOC:
- Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your FIAT PUNTO (176) car.
- The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
- Please note: all work on the car – FIAT PUNTO (176) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. - Step 3Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. FIAT PUNTO (176) - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6
Clean the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 7
Unstake the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer. - Step 8
Install the wheel.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. FIAT PUNTO (176) - Step 9
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. - Step 10Lower the car.Step 11
Loosen the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a drive socket #32. Use a tap wrench. - Step 12Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 13
Unscrew the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. FIAT PUNTO (176) - Step 14
Remove the wheel. - Step 15Remove the fastening nut.Step 16
Detach the driveshaft from the steering knuckle. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer. - Step 17
Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar. - Step 18
Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 19
Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #18. Use a tap wrench. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 20
Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.Replacement: wheel bearing – FIAT PUNTO (176). Tip from AUTODOC experts:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur. Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary. - Step 21
Clean the brake disc fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 22
Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use a drive socket #12. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 23
Remove the brake disc. Use a rubber mallet. - Step 24
Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 25
Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 26
Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller. - Step 27
Clean the ABS sensor mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 28
Unscrew the ABS sensor fastener. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 29
Disconnect the ABS sensor. - Step 30
Disconnect the wiring and the brake hose from the bracket on the shock strut. Use a crowbar. - Step 31
Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #13. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 32
Remove the fastening bolt. - Step 33
Clean the fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 34
Unscrew the fasteners connecting the suspension strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #15. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 35
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 36Detach the driveshaft from the steering knuckle.Step 37
Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut. - Step 38
Remove the steering knuckle together with the hub. - Step 39
Clean the wheel hub fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 40
Remove the wheel hub from the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set. - Step 41
Place the steering knuckle in the viсe. - Step 42
Remove the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use flat screwdrivers (2 pieces). - Step 43
Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 44
Loosen the vice and remove the steering knuckle. - Step 45
Press out the wheel hub bearing. Use a bush and bearing driver set. - Step 46
Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 47
Press the new bearing in the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.Replacement: wheel bearing – FIAT PUNTO (176). Professionals recommend:Check to make sure the wheel hub bearing is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment. Stop pressing on the surface of the bearing immediately after it has been fitted into its mounting seat. - Step 48
Install the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use a flat screwdriver. - Step 49
Clean the hub. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 50
Install the wheel hub on the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.Replacement: wheel bearing – FIAT PUNTO (176). Tip from AUTODOC:Make sure that the wheel hub is positioned correctly. Avoid any misalignment. - Step 51
Clean the splines of the drive shaft CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
