Replacement: brake pads – FIAT PUNTO (176). AUTODOC experts recommend:
- Perform the replacement of brake pads in complete set for each axis. This provides effective braking.
- The replacement procedure is identical for all brake pads on the same axle.
- Please note: all work on the car – FIAT PUNTO (176) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.Step 2Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 3Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 4Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 5Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. FIAT PUNTO (176)
- Step 6Remove the wheel.
- Step 7Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 8Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
- Step 9Remove the lock pin retainer clip. Use round-nose pliers.
- Step 10Remove the brake caliper cotter pin. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.
- Step 11Lift the caliper up.Replacement: brake pads – FIAT PUNTO (176). Tip from AUTODOC experts:Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur. Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
- Step 12Remove the brake pads.Replacement: brake pads – FIAT PUNTO (176). Tip from AUTODOC experts:Measure the brake disc thickness. Upon reaching the wear limit the part must be replaced.
- Step 13Clean the brake caliper bracket from dirt and dust. Use a wire brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 14Treat the brake caliper piston. Use a nylon cleaning brush. Use a brake cleaner.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: brake pads – FIAT PUNTO (176). After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
- Step 15Press in the brake caliper piston. Use brake caliper wind back tool.
- Step 16Treat the brake pads in the area where their surface comes into contact with the brake caliper bracket. Use anti-squeal paste.Replacement: brake pads – FIAT PUNTO (176). Tip:Make sure the disc surface is clean before installing the pads.
