AUTODOC recommends:
- Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your AUDI 90 (81, 85, B2) car.
- The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
- Please note: all work on the car – AUDI 90 (81, 85, B2) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.Step 2Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 3Loosen the fastener of the driveshaft. Use HEX No.H14. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 4Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 5Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 6Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. AUDI 90 (81, 85, B2)
- Step 7Remove the wheel.
- Step 8Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
- Step 9Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 10Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 11Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.Replacement: wheel bearing – AUDI 90 (81, 85, B2). Professionals recommend:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
- Step 12Remove the brake disc.
- Step 13Remove the fastening bolt. Use HEX No.H14. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 14Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
- Step 15Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 16Unscrew the upper arm fastenings. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 17Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 18Remove the control arms.
- Step 19Detach the driveshaft from the steering knuckle.Replacement: wheel bearing – AUDI 90 (81, 85, B2). Tip from AUTODOC:Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).
- Step 20Install the control arms.
- Step 21Install the fastening bolt.
- Step 22Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 23Remove the wheel hub from the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set. Use the hub slide hammer puller.
- Step 24Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 25Press out the wheel hub bearing. Use a bush and bearing driver set. Use the bearing puller.
- Step 26Remove the bearing inner race from the wheel hub. Use a bearing separator. Use 3-Arm Gear Puller.
- Step 27Clean the hub. Use a wire brush.
- Step 28Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 29Press the new bearing in the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.Replacement: wheel bearing – AUDI 90 (81, 85, B2). AUTODOC experts recommend:Check to make sure the wheel hub bearing is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment. Stop pressing on the surface of the bearing immediately after it has been fitted into its mounting seat.Step 30Install the wheel hub on the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set. Use the bearing puller.
- Step 31Remove the fastening bolt. Use a crowbar.
