How to change a front shock strut on HONDA CIVIC 8 [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Shock Absorber for CIVIC VIII Hatchback (FN, FK) and other HONDA models
Loosen the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. Use a tap wrench.
Step 9
Raise the car.
AUTODOC recommends:
If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.
Step 10
Unscrew the wheel bolts.

Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Honda Civic 8
Step 11
Remove the wheel.
Step 12
Clean the fastener that connects the brake hose bracket to the suspension strut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 13
Unscrew the fastener that connects the brake hose bracket to the suspension strut. Use a drive socket #12. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 14
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 15
Remove the brake hose bracket.
Step 16
Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring. Use a clip removal tool.
Step 17
Clean the fastener that connects the sway bar link to the suspension strut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 18
Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the shock strut. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 19
Remove the stabiliser link.
Step 20
Support the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 21
Clean the fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 22
Unscrew the fasteners connecting the suspension strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #19. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 23
Remove the fastening bolts.
Step 24
Disconnect the steering knuckle from the suspension strut.
To avoid injuries, hold the shock strut when undoing the fastening bolts.
Step 26
Remove the suspension strut.
Step 27
Clean the mounting seats of the shock strut. Use a wire brush.
Step 28
Set the suspension strut on the spring compressor tool.
AUTODOC recommends:
Note that when using a spring compressor, the spring coils need to be securely gripped, applying pressure on both ends.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils fit tightly into the retainers.
Step 29
Compress the spring.
Step 30
Unscrew the strut piston rod nut. Use a 19-mm strut nut socket. Use HEX No.H6. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 31
Remove the shock strut mount.
Step 32
Decompress the spring.
Step 33
Remove the shock absorber dust boot and bump stop.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: suspension strut – Honda Civic 8. Carefully inspect the mount, the boot, and the bump stop of the shock absorber. Replace if necessary.
Step 34
Remove the spring.
Step 35
Remove the old shock absorber from the hydraulic coil spring compressor.
Step 36
Install the new shock absorber on the hydraulic coil spring compressor.
AUTODOC recommends:
Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it 3–5 times by hand.
Step 37
Install the spring on the shock absorber.
Step 38
Compress the spring.
Step 39
Install the dust boot and the bump stop on the new shock absorber.
Step 40
Install the upper strut mount and the strut mount bearing.
Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
Step 41
Tighten the nut of the suspension strut piston rod. Use a 17-mm strut nut socket. Use HEX No.H6. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 54 Nm torque.
Step 42
Decompress the spring.
Step 43
Remove the assembled shock strut.
Step 44
Install the suspension strut into the wheel arch.
Step 45
Secure the upper fasteners of the shock strut.
AUTODOC recommends:
Do not tighten it.Honda Civic 8 – To avoid injury, hold the suspension strut while screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 46
Fasten the suspension strut on the steering knuckle.
Step 47
Install the fastening bolts.
Step 48
Tighten the lower fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #19. Use a drive socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 106 Nm torque.
Step 49
Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.
Step 50
Reconnect the sway bar link to the suspension strut.
Step 51
Tighten the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the shock strut. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 30 Nm torque.
Step 52
Connect the ABS sensor wiring.
Step 53
Install the brake hose bracket.
Step 54
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 55
Tighten the fastener connecting the brake hose bracket to the suspension strut. Use a drive socket #12. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 15 Nm torque.
Step 56
Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush.
Step 57
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use ceramic grease.
Step 58
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
Step 59
Install the wheel.

Important! Hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts. Honda Civic 8
Step 60
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 61
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 108 Nm torque.
Step 62
Remove the jacks and chocks.
Step 63
Tighten the upper fasteners of the shock strut. Use a drive socket #14. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 54 Nm torque.
Step 64
Install the cap on the suspension strut mount.
Step 65
Install the plastic panel.
Step 66
Remove the fender protection cover.
Step 67
Close the bonnet.
