Replacement: shock absorbers – Honda Civic 8. AUTODOC experts recommend:
- Both shock absorbers of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right shock absorbers of the rear suspension.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: shock absorbers – Honda Civic 8. Take the following steps:
- Step 1
Open the luggage compartment. - Step 2
Remove the mount cap from the shock absorber upper fastener. - Step 3
Clean the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 4
Loosen the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a 14-mm strut nut socket. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 5Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 6
Loosen the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. Use a tap wrench. - Step 7
Raise the car.Replacement: shock absorbers – Honda Civic 8. AUTODOC recommends:If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands. - Step 8
Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Honda Civic 8 - Step 9
Remove the wheel. - Step 10
Clean the lower shock absorber fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 11
Support the rear axle beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack. - Step 12
Unscrew the lower fasteners of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 13
Unscrew the upper fastener of the shock absorber. - Step 14
Remove the elements of the shock absorber upper mount. - Step 15
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm.Replacement: shock absorbers – Honda Civic 8. Tip:Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms. - Step 16
Remove the fastening bolt. - Step 17
Remove the shock absorber. - Step 18
Clean the shock absorber mounting seats. Use a wire brush. - Step 19Remove the shock absorber dust boot and bump stop.AUTODOC recommends:Examine the shock absorber dust boot and bump stop. Replace them if necessary.Step 20
Install the dust boot and the bump stop on the new shock absorber. - Step 21
Place the shock absorber in the wheel arch and secure it.Replacement: shock absorbers – Honda Civic 8. AUTODOC experts recommend:Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it 3–5 times by hand. - Step 22
Install the fastening bolt.
