How to change Front Suspension Arm on MERCEDES-BENZ A W168 TUTORIAL | AUTODOC

Replacement: front lower arm – Mercedes W168. AUTODOC experts recommend:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Please note: all work on the car – Mercedes W168 – should be done with the engine switched off.
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 3Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
- Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: front lower arm – Mercedes W168. Tip:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Clean the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 7Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #19.
- Step 8Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a crowbar. Use a hammer.
- Step 9Clean the fasteners connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 10Unscrew the front arm fastener. Use a drive socket #E14. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 11Remove the front fastener of the control arm.
- Step 12Unscrew the rear fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a drive socket #E14. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 13Remove the rear fastener of the control arm. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 14Remove the arm. Use a crowbar.
- Step 15Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 16Install a new arm.Replacement: front lower arm – Mercedes W168. AUTODOC recommends:During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.Do not damage the ball joint cover.
- Step 17Install the front fastener of the arm.
- Step 18Install the rear fastener of the control arm. Use a hammer.
- Step 19Screw the rear arm fastener. Use a drive socket #E14. Use a ratchet wrench.
