The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: front lower arm – Mercedes W245. Recommended sequence of steps:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #H12.
Step 3
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Mercedes W245
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Replacement: front lower arm – Mercedes W245. AUTODOC experts recommend:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 7
Unscrew and remove the wheel arch cover fasteners. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 8
Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Replacement: front lower arm – Mercedes W245. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 9
Unscrew the front arm fastener. Use a combination spanner #21. Use a drive socket #E18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 10
Remove the front fastener of the control arm.
Step 11
Unscrew the rear fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a combination spanner #21. Use a drive socket #E18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 12
Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #21.
Step 13
Disconnect the lower arm from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
Step 14
Remove the rear fastener of the control arm.
Step 15
Remove the arm.
Step 16
Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 17
Install a new arm. Use a crowbar.
Replacement: front lower arm – Mercedes W245. Tip:
During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.Do not damage the ball joint cover.
Step 18
Install the rear fastener of the control arm.
Step 19
Connect the lower arm to the steering knuckle.
Step 20
Install the front fastener of the arm.
Step 21
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 22
Tighten the fasteners of the ball joint. Use a combination spanner #22. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 50 Nm torque.+60°
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 23
Tighten the front fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a combination spanner #21. Use a drive socket #E18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.+90°
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 24
Tighten the rear fastener connecting the arm to the body subframe. Use a combination spanner #21. Use a drive socket #E18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.+90°

Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 25
Remove the support from under the arm.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: front lower arm – Mercedes W245. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 26
Treat all joints of the arm. Use copper grease.
Step 27
Tighten the fasteners of the ball joint. Use a drive socket #14. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 55 nm torque.
Step 28
Treat all joints of the arm. Use copper grease.
Step 29
Install and tighten the wheel arch cover fasteners. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 30
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 31
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
Replacement: front lower arm – Mercedes W245. Tip from AUTODOC:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 32
Install the wheel.
Replacement: front lower arm – Mercedes W245. Professionals recommend:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 33
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #H12.
Step 34
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #H12. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 130 Nm torque.
Step 35
Remove the jacks and chocks.
