Replacement: front lower arm – Mercedes W245. AUTODOC recommends:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: front lower arm – Mercedes W245. Recommended sequence of steps:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #H12.
- Step 3Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
- Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Mercedes W245
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Replacement: front lower arm – Mercedes W245. AUTODOC experts recommend:After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
- Step 7Unscrew and remove the wheel arch cover fasteners. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 8Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: front lower arm – Mercedes W245. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
- Step 9Unscrew the front arm fastener. Use a combination spanner #21. Use a drive socket #E18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 10Remove the front fastener of the control arm.
- Step 11Unscrew the rear fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a combination spanner #21. Use a drive socket #E18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 12Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #21.
- Step 13Disconnect the lower arm from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
- Step 14Remove the rear fastener of the control arm.Step 15Remove the arm.
- Step 16Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 17Install a new arm. Use a crowbar.Replacement: front lower arm – Mercedes W245. Tip:During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.Do not damage the ball joint cover.Step 18Install the rear fastener of the control arm.
- Step 19Connect the lower arm to the steering knuckle.
- Step 20Install the front fastener of the arm.
