How to change front suspension arm / front control arm on FIAT DOBLO 1 223 [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Control Arm for Doblo Cargo (223_) and other FIAT models
Replacement: front lower arm – Fiat Doblo Cargo. Tip from AUTODOC:
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
Warning! Shut down the engine before starting any work – Fiat Doblo Cargo.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 3
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
Replacement: front lower arm – Fiat Doblo Cargo. AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Treat all joints of the arm. Use WD-40 spray.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: front lower arm – Fiat Doblo Cargo. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.Wear protective goggles.Wear a respirator.
Step 7
Unscrew the fastener of the bracket that connects the control arm to the stabilizer bar. Use a drive socket #10.
Step 8
Unscrew the fastening bolts of the bracket that connects the stabilizer bar to the car body. Use a drive socket #13.
Step 9
Unscrew the fastening bolts of the bracket that connects the stabilizer bar to the rear side of the control arm. Use a drive socket #18. Use a tap wrench.
Step 10
Unscrew the fastening bolts of the bracket that connects the stabilizer bar to the front side of the control arm. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 11
Disconnect the stabilizer bar from the control arm. Use a crowbar.
Step 12
Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #19.
Step 13
Remove the fastening nut.
Step 14
Disconnect the lower arm from the steering knuckle.
Step 15
Unscrew the front arm fastener. Use a combination spanner #19. Use a drive socket #19. Use a tap wrench.
Step 16
Unscrew the fastener of the bracket that connects the control arm to the сar body. Use a drive socket #15.
Step 17
Unscrew the rear arm fastener. Use a drive socket #18. Use a tap wrench.
Step 18
Remove the front fastener of the control arm.
Step 19
Remove the arm.
Step 20
Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 21
Install a new arm.
Replacement: front lower arm – Fiat Doblo Cargo. AUTODOC experts recommend:
During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.Do not damage the ball joint cover.
Step 22
Install the front fastener of the arm. Do not tighten it.
Step 23
Connect the lower arm to the steering knuckle.
Step 24
Install the fastening nut of the ball joint.
Step 25
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 26
Screw the front arm fastener. Use a drive socket #19. Use a combination spanner #19.
Step 27
Screw in the fastener of the bracket that connects the control arm to the сar body. Use a drive socket #15.
Step 28
Connect the stabilizer bar to the control arm.
Step 29
Screw in the fastening bolts of the bracket that connects the stabilizer bar to the front side of the control arm. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 30
Screw in the fastener of the bracket that connects the stabilizer bar to the rear side of the control arm. Use a drive socket #18.
Step 31
Tighten the front fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a drive socket #19. Use a combination spanner #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 125 nm torque.
Step 32
Tighten the ball joint fastener. Use a combination spanner #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 60 nm torque.
Step 33
Remove the support from under the arm.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: front lower arm – Fiat Doblo Cargo. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 34
Support the stabilizer bar. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 35
Align the fastener holes of the stabilizer link and the suspension control arm. Use a pin punch.
Step 36
Screw in the fastener of the bracket that connects the stabilizer bar to the car body. Use a drive socket #13.
Step 37
Remove the transmission jack from under the stabilizer bar.
AUTODOC recommends:
Fiat Doblo Cargo – Do not lower the transmission jack sharply to avoid damaging components and mechanisms of the car.
Step 38
Screw in the fastener of the bracket that connects the control arm to the stabilizer bar. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 39
Tighten the rear fastener of the control arm. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 80 nm torque.
Step 40
Tighten the fastener of the bracket that connects the control arm to the car body. Use a drive socket #15. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 50 nm torque.
Step 41
Tighten the fasteners that connect the stabilizer bar to the suspension control arm. Use a drive socket #13. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 28 nm torque.
Step 42
Treat all joints of the arm. Use copper grease.
Step 43
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 44
Install the wheel.
Replacement: front lower arm – Fiat Doblo Cargo. Professionals recommend:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 45
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 46
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 98 nm torque.
Step 47
Remove the jacks and chocks.
