Replacement: front lower arm – Audi A3 8L1. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: front lower arm – Audi A3 8L1. Take the following steps:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 3Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
- Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: front lower arm – Audi A3 8L1. AUTODOC recommends:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Disconnect the transverse stabilizer fastener from the link. Use a drive socket #16. Use HEX No.H8.
- Step 7Turn the stabilizer.
- Step 8Unscrew the ball joint fastening nut. Use a combination spanner #18.
- Step 9Unscrew the front arm fastener. Use a drive socket #16.
- Step 10Unscrew the rear arm fastener. Use a drive socket #18.
- Step 11Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle.
- Step 12Remove the arm.Replacement: front lower arm – Audi A3 8L1. Professionals recommend:If necessary, use a crowbar.
- Step 13Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Treat all joints of the arm. Use WD-40 spray.Replacement: front lower arm – Audi A3 8L1. Tip from AUTODOC:Wear protective goggles.
- Step 14Install a new arm.
- Step 15Insert the ball joint into the steering knuckle and fix it with a new nut.Replacement: front lower arm – Audi A3 8L1. AUTODOC experts recommend:Do not damage the ball joint cover.
- Step 16Install the front fastener of the arm. Do not tighten it.
