- Check the condition of the coolant every time you replace the thermostat. Change the coolant if necessary.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: engine thermostat – PEUGEOT 308 (4A_, 4C_). Take the following steps:
- Step 1Open the bonnet.Step 2Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.Step 3Disconnect the air intake pipe fastening. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 4Remove the air intake pipe.
- Step 5Remove the battery cover.
- Step 6Unscrew the fasteners of the car battery terminals. Use a combination spanner #8.
- Step 7Remove the battery terminals.
- Step 8Press the battery retainers to release them.
- Step 9Remove the battery.
- Step 10Remove the electronic control unit.
- Step 11Remove the engine wiring harness cover.
- Step 12Detach the engine wiring harness connectors. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 13Unscrew the coolant reservoir cap.
- Step 14Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 15Lift the car using a jack or place it over an inspection pit.Step 16Prepare a container for fluids.
- Step 17Detach the clamp of the lower coolant pipe. Use a combination spanner #7.
- Step 18Detach the lower coolant pipe.
- Step 19Drain the coolant from the engine.AUTODOC recommends:Caution! The coolant can be very hot.Wear gloves to prevent contact with hot liquid.All work should be done with the engine stopped.
- Step 20Clean the lower coolant pipe mounting seat. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 21Attach the lower coolant pipe.
- Step 22Attach the clamp of the lower coolant pipe. Use a combination spanner #7.
- Step 23Clean the coolant hose. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 24Lower the car.Step 25Remove the jacks and chocks.Step 26Loosen the coolant hose clamp. Use a drive socket #7. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 27Detach the coolant hose.Replacement: engine thermostat – PEUGEOT 308 (4A_, 4C_). AUTODOC recommends:Caution! Coolant may leak out of the coolant lines and thermostat housing.
- Step 28Loosen the coolant hose clamp. Use clic-R collar pliers.Replacement: engine thermostat – PEUGEOT 308 (4A_, 4C_). Tip:Caution! Coolant may leak out of the coolant lines and thermostat housing.
- Step 29Loosen the coolant hose clamp. Use a drive socket #7. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 30Detach the coolant hose.AUTODOC recommends:Caution! Coolant may leak out of the coolant lines and thermostat housing.
- Step 31Loosen the coolant hose clamp. Use a drive socket #7. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 32Detach the coolant hose.Replacement: engine thermostat – PEUGEOT 308 (4A_, 4C_). Professionals recommend:Caution! Coolant may leak out of the coolant lines and thermostat housing.
- Step 33Unscrew the thermostat housing fasteners. Use a drive socket #8. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 34Unscrew the thermostat housing mounting stud. Use a drive socket #E5. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 35Detach the clip of the upper coolant hose. Use round-nose pliers.
- Step 36Remove the thermostat housing.
- Step 37Clean the thermostat housing mounting seat. Use a seal scraper. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 38Install the new thermostat housing.
- Step 39Attach the coolant hose.
- Step 40Attach the clip of the upper coolant hose.
- Step 41Tighten the thermostat housing fasteners. Use a drive socket #8. Use a drive socket #10. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 13 nm torque.
- Step 42Tighten the thermostat housing mounting stud. Use a drive socket #E5. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 11 nm torque.
