What do traffic police officers do? HYUNDAI Tucson (TL, TLE) (05.2015 - ...)

Hey everyone, I’m curious about the role of traffic officers here in the UK. Do they handle specific issues related to cars (like my Hyundai Tucson 2016)? For instance, do they deal with parking violations, speeding, or anything else that might affect daily driving? Or is this the responsibility of another agency?

In the UK, traffic officers primarily work on motorways and major roads to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and road safety, but they are not police officers and do not have full law enforcement powers over drivers or vehicles like your Hyundai Tucson 2016.

    What traffic officers can do:
    - Manage traffic flow by directing vehicles to stop, move into certain lanes, or diverting traffic around incidents.
    - Attend and clear incidents such as breakdowns, accidents, or debris on the road to reduce congestion and prevent secondary accidents.
    - Conduct roadside checks related to vehicle registration or driver sobriety but do not have powers to arrest or issue fines themselves.
    - Work alongside police and emergency services to coordinate responses to road incidents.
    - Remove broken-down or abandoned vehicles from the road to maintain safety.
    - Place and maintain temporary traffic signs and manage road closures when necessary.
    - Use CCTV in patrol vehicles to record traffic offences and pass evidence to the police for prosecution.

What traffic officers do NOT do:
    - They cannot issue fixed penalty notices, arrest drivers, or directly enforce speeding or parking violations.
    - Enforcement of speeding, parking violations, and other motoring offences is the responsibility of police roads policing units or local authorities.
    - Traffic officers do not have powers to search vehicles or drivers or prosecute offences themselves.

Who handles parking violations, speeding, and other motoring offences?
    - Local council parking enforcement officers typically handle parking violations.
    - Police roads policing units are responsible for enforcing speeding laws and other moving traffic offences on all roads.
    - Roads policing officers have specialist driving skills and powers to stop vehicles, arrest offenders, and investigate serious road incidents.

Traffic officers focus on traffic management, incident response, and road safety on major roads and motorways but do not enforce parking or speeding laws. For issues like speeding or parking violations involving your Hyundai Tucson or any vehicle, you would need to contact the police or local council enforcement, respectively.
