- Step 1Open the bonnet.Step 2Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.Step 3
Loosen the fastening clamp connecting the air duct to the air filter housing. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 4
Disconnect the air intake pipe from the air filter housing. - Step 5
Unscrew the fasteners of the air filter housing. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 6
Loosen the fastening clamp connecting the air duct to the air filter housing. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 7
Disconnect the air intake pipe from the air filter housing. - Step 8
Cover the air intake hose with a microfibre towel to prevent dust and dirt from getting into the system. - Step 9Move the air filter housing aside.Step 10
Unscrew the fasteners of the air filter housing bracket. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 11
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 12
Remove the air filter housing bracket. - Step 13
Clean the ignition coils. - Step 14
Unplug the connectors from the ignition coils. - Step 15
Unscrew the fasteners of the ignition coils. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 16
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 17
Take out the ignition coils from the spark plug wells.Replacement: spark plugs – TOYOTA COROLLA Estate (_E12J_, _E12T_). Tip:Remember the sequence of steps for ignition coil demounting. - Step 18
Clean dirt, dust and debris from inside the spark plug wells. - Step 19
Unscrew the spark plugs. Use the spark plug socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 20
Take out the spark plugs. - Step 21
Apply a thin layer of a special high temperature anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the new spark plugs. - Step 22
Install the new spark plugs into their mounting seats. - Step 23
Screw new spark plugs and tighten them. Use the spark plug socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 19 nm torque.Replacement: spark plugs – TOYOTA COROLLA Estate (_E12J_, _E12T_). Tip from AUTODOC experts:Don't tighten the plugs with excessive force. Exceeding tightening torque can damage the thread connection. Be careful when working with a spark plug wrench. Its skewing can cause damage to the threaded connection.Lower the spark plugs into the wells carefully, making sure not to damage the electrode gap. - Step 24
Install the ignition coils to the spark plug wells. - Step 25
Install the fastening bolts.
