How to change serpentine belt on VOLKSWAGEN GOLF 3 (1H1) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Poly V-Belt for GOLF III (1H1) and other VW models
Replacement: serpentine belt – VW Golf 3. Take the following steps:
Step 1
Open the bonnet.
Step 2
Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
Step 3
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 4
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 5
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 6
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VW Golf 3
Step 7
Remove the wheel.
Step 8
Unscrew the wheel arch cover fasteners. Use a Phillips screwdriver.
Step 9
Remove the wheel arch cover.
Step 10
Clean the fasteners of the hydraulic power steering pump. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 11
Unscrew the fasteners of the hydraulic power steering pump. Use a drive socket #13. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 12
Loosen the V belt.
Step 13
Remove the V belt.
Step 14
Clean the alternator fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 15
Loosen the alternator fasteners. Use a drive socket #13. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 16
Remove the V-ribbed belt.
Step 17
Install the V-ribbed belt.
Replacement: serpentine belt – VW Golf 3. Tip from AUTODOC:
Make sure that the V-ribbed belt fits all pulleys snugly.
Step 18
Place the V-ribbed belt on the alternator. Use a crowbar.
AUTODOC recommends:
Make sure that the V-ribbed belt is properly tensioned.
Step 19
Install the V belt.
Step 20
Tighten the fasteners of the hydraulic power steering pump. Use a drive socket #13. Use a drive socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 25 Nm torque.
Step 21
Tighten the alternator fasteners. Use a drive socket #13. Use a drive socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 30 Nm torque.
Step 22
Install the wheel arch cover to its mounting seat. Screw in the fasteners. Use a Phillips screwdriver.
Step 23
Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush.
Step 24
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 25
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: serpentine belt – VW Golf 3. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 26
Install the wheel.
Replacement: serpentine belt – VW Golf 3. Professionals recommend:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 27
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 28
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 nm torque.
Step 29
Remove the jacks and chocks.
Step 30
Remove the fender protection cover.
Step 31
Close the hood.
