How to change rear wheel bearing on OPEL ASTRA H Saloon [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]

AUTODOC recommends:
- Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your Opel Astra H saloon car.
- The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
- Please note: all work on the car – Opel Astra H saloon – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.
- Step 2Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 3Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 4Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
- Step 5Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Opel Astra H saloon
- Step 6Remove the wheel.
- Step 7Clean the area where the brake hose is connected to the caliper, and the guide pins area. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 8Loosen the brake hose fastening. Use a drive socket #E11. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 9Detach the ABS sensor connector.
- Step 10Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 11Unscrew the brake caliper fastening. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 12Remove the brake caliper. Use a crowbar.Replacement: wheel bearing – Opel Astra H saloon. AUTODOC experts recommend:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
- Step 13Remove the brake pads.
- Step 14Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: wheel bearing – Opel Astra H saloon. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
- Step 15Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #E16. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 16Remove the caliper bracket.
- Step 17Clean the brake disc fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 18Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use Torx T30. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 19Remove the brake disc. Use a hammer.
- Step 20Clean the fasteners of the wheel hub bearing. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 21Unscrew the hub bearing mounting. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 22Remove the hub bearing together with the brake disc protection plate.
- Step 23Grip the wheel hub together with the bearing in a vice.
- Step 24Detach the hub bearing from the brake disc protection plate. Use a crowbar. Use a hammer.
- Step 25Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 26Treat the wheel hub bearing. Use copper grease.
- Step 27Install a new wheel hub bearing.
- Step 28Install the hub bearing together with the brake disc protection plate.
- Step 29Tighten the fastener of the wheel hub bearing. Use a drive socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 50 Nm torque.+45°Replacement: wheel bearing – Opel Astra H saloon. Tip from AUTODOC:Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
- Step 30Treat the ABS sensor connector. Use dielectric grease.
