All the parts you need to replace – Wheel Bearing for Astra H GTC (A04) and other OPEL models
Replacement: wheel bearing – OPEL ASTRA H GTC (L08). Tip:
Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your OPEL ASTRA H GTC (L08) car.
The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
Warning! Shut down the engine before starting any work – OPEL ASTRA H GTC (L08).
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 3
Unscrew the fastener connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use a drive socket #32. Use a tap wrench.
Step 4
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 5
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
Replacement: wheel bearing – OPEL ASTRA H GTC (L08). AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 6
Remove the wheel.
Step 7
Remove the dust boot caps of the brake caliper guide pins. Use a crowbar.
Step 8
Unscrew the brake caliper fastening. Use HEX No.H7. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 9
Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
Step 10
Pull aside the brake caliper retaining spring. Use a crowbar.
Step 11
Remove the brake caliper.
Replacement: wheel bearing – OPEL ASTRA H GTC (L08). Professionals recommend:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur. Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
Step 12
Remove the brake pads.
Step 13
Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 14
Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #18. Use a tap wrench.
Step 15
Remove the caliper bracket.
Step 16
Clean the brake disc fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 17
Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 18
Remove the brake disc.
Replacement: wheel bearing – OPEL ASTRA H GTC (L08). Tip from AUTODOC:
If necessary, use a rubber mallet.
Step 19
Unscrew the wheel hub axle nut. Use a drive socket #32.
Step 20
Remove the drive shaft.
Step 21
Clean the fastener that connects the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 22
Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 23
Remove the fastening bolt. Use a pin punch. Use a rubber mallet.
Step 24
Release the fastener that connects the control arm ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.
Step 25
Disconnect the lower arm from the steering knuckle.
Step 26
Remove the drive shaft.
Replacement: wheel bearing – OPEL ASTRA H GTC (L08). AUTODOC experts recommend:
Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).
Step 27
Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 28
Detach the ABS sensor connector.
Step 29
Unscrew the hub bearing mounting. Use a drive socket #E13. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
Step 30
Remove the hub and the bearing together, since they are a sealed unit.
Step 31
Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 32
Install the new wheel hub with a bearing.
Step 33
Tighten the fastener of the wheel hub bearing. Use a drive socket #E13. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 90 Nm torque.+45°
Replacement: wheel bearing – OPEL ASTRA H GTC (L08). Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.The wheel bearing unit must not tilt on the axle pin.
Step 34
Clean the splines of the drive shaft CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 35
Mount the drive shaft into the
wheel hub.
Step 36
Connect the lower arm to the steering knuckle.
Step 37
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 38
Tighten the ball joint fastener. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 50 Nm torque.
Step 39
Attach the ABS sensor connector.
Step 40
Treat the splines of the driveshaft CV joint. Use copper grease.
Step 41
Screw the wheel hub axle nut. Use a drive socket #32.
Step 42
Treat the hub where it contacts the brake disk. Use copper grease.
Step 43
Install the brake disc.
Step 44
Tighten the brake disc fastening. Use HEX No.H5. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 7 Nm torque.
Step 45
Install the brake caliper bracket.
Step 46
Tighten the brake caliper bracket. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 100 Nm torque.
Step 47
Install the brake pads.
Step 48
Install the brake caliper and fix it.
Step 49
Tighten the brake caliper fasteners. Use HEX No.H7. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 28 Nm torque.
Step 50
Install the dust boot caps of the brake caliper guide pins.
Step 51
Snap the brake caliper retaining spring back into place. Use a crowbar.
Step 52
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 53
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: wheel bearing – OPEL ASTRA H GTC (L08). After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 54
Install the wheel.
Replacement: wheel bearing – OPEL ASTRA H GTC (L08). AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 55
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 56
Lower the car.
Step 57
Tighten the drive shaft nut. Use a drive socket #32. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 250 Nm torque.
Step 58
Tighten the wheel bolts using a criss-cross pattern. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 Nm torque.
Step 59
Remove the jacks and chocks.
