How to change front wheel bearing on OPEL ASTRA H Saloon [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]

AUTODOC recommends:
- Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your Opel Astra H saloon car.
- The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
- Please note: all work on the car – Opel Astra H saloon – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. - Step 3
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports. - Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Opel Astra H saloon - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6
Remove the wheel hub nut cap. Use a hammer. Use a crowbar. - Step 7
Loosen and remove the hub nut. Use a drive socket #32. Use a tap wrench. - Step 8
Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar. - Step 9
Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 10
Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #18. Use a tap wrench. - Step 11
Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.Replacement: wheel bearing – Opel Astra H saloon. Professionals recommend:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary. - Step 12
Clean the brake disc fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 13
Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use Torx T30. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 14
Remove the brake disc.Replacement: wheel bearing – Opel Astra H saloon. AUTODOC experts recommend:If necessary, use a rubber mallet. - Step 15
Detach the ABS sensor connector. - Step 16
Detach the driveshaft from the steering knuckle. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.Replacement: wheel bearing – Opel Astra H saloon. Tip from AUTODOC experts:Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked). - Step 17
Unscrew the fasteners connecting the suspension strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 18
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 19
Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut. - Step 20
Clean the wheel hub fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 21
Unscrew the wheel hub axle nut. Use a drive socket #Е18. Use a tap wrench. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 22
Remove the hub and the bearing together, since they are a sealed unit. - Step 23
Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 24
Treat the wheel hub bearing. Use copper grease. - Step 25
Install the new wheel hub with a bearing. - Step 26
Fix the shock absorber strut on the steering knuckle. - Step 27
Install the fastening bolts. - Step 28
Tighten the hub. Use a drive socket #Е18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 90 Nm torque.+45°Replacement: wheel bearing – Opel Astra H saloon. Tip from AUTODOC:Make sure that the wheel hub is positioned correctly. Avoid any misalignment.Important! Be sure to use new fasteners. - Step 29
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 30
Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut. - Step 31
Clean the splines of the drive shaft CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 32
Install the drive shaft.
