How to change rear shock absorbers TOYOTA YARIS XP10 TUTORIAL | AUTODOC
All the parts you need to replace – Shock Absorber for Yaris Hatchback (_P1_) and other TOYOTA models
Replacement: shock absorbers – Toyota Yaris P1. AUTODOC recommends:
Both shock absorbers of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right shock absorbers of the rear suspension.
Warning! Shut down the engine before starting any work – Toyota Yaris P1.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
Step 3
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
Replacement: shock absorbers – Toyota Yaris P1. AUTODOC experts recommend:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Support the rear suspension beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 7
Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 8
Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 9
Detach the lower part of the shock absorber.
Step 10
Remove the mounting from under the rear axle beam.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: shock absorbers – Toyota Yaris P1. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 11
Lower the car.
Step 12
Open the boot lid.
Step 13
Remove the protective cap of the shock absorber mount. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 14
Remove the mount cap from the shock absorber upper fastener.
Step 15
Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 16
Unscrew the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #14 (2 pieces).
Replacement: shock absorbers – Toyota Yaris P1. Tip:
To avoid injuries, hold the shock absorber when undoing the fastening bolts.
Step 17
Remove the shock absorber.
Step 18
Remove the shock absorber mount, boot and bump stop.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: shock absorbers – Toyota Yaris P1. Carefully inspect the mount, the boot, and the bump stop of the shock absorber. Replace if necessary.Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it manually 3-5 times.
Step 19
Install the mount, boot and bump stop onto a new shock absorber.
Step 20
Place the shock absorber in the wheel arch and fasten it.
Replacement: shock absorbers – Toyota Yaris P1. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
To avoid injury, hold the shock absorber cautiously tight when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 21
Tighten the top shock absorber fastening. Use a combination spanner #14 (2 pieces). Use an adjustable wrench. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 25 Nm torque.
Step 22
Treat the shock absorber fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 23
Install the mount cap on the shock absorber upper fastener.
Step 24
Install the protective shock absorber mounting cap.
Step 25
Close the lid of the luggage compartment.
Step 26
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
Step 27
Support the rear suspension beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 28
Attach the lower part of the shock absorber.
Step 29
Tighten the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 88 Nm torque.
Step 30
Remove the mounting from under the rear axle beam.
AUTODOC recommends:
Toyota Yaris P1 – Do not lower the transmission jack sharply to avoid damaging components and mechanisms of the car.
Step 31
Treat the surface where the wheel rim contacts the brake drum. Use copper grease.
Step 32
Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a brake cleaner.
Replacement: shock absorbers – Toyota Yaris P1. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 33
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts. Toyota Yaris P1
Step 34
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
Step 35
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 103 Nm torque.
Step 36
Remove the jacks and chocks.
