Replacement: shock absorbers – Mercedes W210. Professionals recommend:
- Both shock absorbers of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right shock absorbers of the rear suspension.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: shock absorbers – Mercedes W210. Recommended sequence of steps:
- Step 1
Open the luggage compartment. - Step 2
Remove the boot floor panel. - Step 3
Remove the luggage compartment trim. - Step 4
Clean the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 5
Loosen the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a special drive socket to remove the shock absorber # 17. Use a shock absorber socket #DD5.2. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 6Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 7
Loosen the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a tap wrench. - Step 8
Raise the car.Replacement: shock absorbers – Mercedes W210. AUTODOC experts recommend:If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands. - Step 9
Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts. - Step 10
Remove the wheel. - Step 11
Clean the lower shock absorber fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 12
Support the rear control arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack. - Step 13
Unscrew the lower fasteners of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 14
Unscrew the upper fastener of the shock absorber. - Step 15
Remove the elements of the shock absorber upper mount. - Step 16
Remove the fastening bolt. - Step 17
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm.Replacement: shock absorbers – Mercedes W210. AUTODOC recommends:Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms. - Step 18
Remove the shock absorber. - Step 19
Clean the shock absorber mounting seats. Use a wire brush. - Step 20
Place the shock absorber in the wheel arch and secure it.Replacement: shock absorbers – Mercedes W210. Tip:Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it 3–5 times by hand. - Step 21
Install the fastening bolt. - Step 22
Support the rear control arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.AUTODOC recommends:For tightening the fasteners correctly, you have to jack up the suspension components to their working position.
