Replacement: shock absorbers – Mercedes W210. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Replace both front shock absorbers at a time.
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right shock absorbers of the front suspension.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: shock absorbers – Mercedes W210. Use the following procedure:
Step 1
Open the bonnet.
Step 2
Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
Step 3
Remove the shock absorber mount cap.
Step 4
Clean the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 5
Loosen the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a special drive socket to remove the shock absorber # 16. Use a shock absorber socket #DD6. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 6
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 7
Loosen the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a tap wrench.
Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it 3–5 times by hand.
Step 21
Install the elements of the shock absorber upper mount.
Step 22
Screw the upper fastener of the shock absorber.
Step 23
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 24
Support the control arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
AUTODOC recommends:
For tightening the fasteners correctly, you have to jack up the suspension components to their working position.
Step 25
Tighten the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 65 Nm torque.
Replacement: shock absorbers – Mercedes W210. Tip from AUTODOC:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 26
Remove the support from under the control arm.
AUTODOC recommends:
Mercedes W210 – Do not lower the transmission jack sharply to avoid damaging components and mechanisms of the car.
Step 27
Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush.
Step 28
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use ceramic grease.
Step 29
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
Step 30
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 31
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 32
Lower the car.
Step 33
Tighten the top fastener of the shock absorber. Use a special drive socket to remove the shock absorber # 16. Use a shock absorber socket #DD6. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 30 Nm torque.
Step 34
Install the shock absorber mount cap.
Step 35
Tighten the wheel bolts using a criss-cross pattern. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 Nm torque.
Step 36
Remove the jacks and chocks.
Step 37
Remove the fender protection cover.
Step 38
Close the bonnet.
