Replacement: shock absorbers – Mercedes W169. AUTODOC recommends:
- Both shock absorbers of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right shock absorbers of the rear suspension.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: shock absorbers – Mercedes W169. Use the following procedure:
- Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. - Step 3Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: shock absorbers – Mercedes W169. Tip:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts. - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack. - Step 7Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 8
Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 9Remove the fastening bolt. Use a crowbar.Step 10
Remove the support from under the arm.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: shock absorbers – Mercedes W169. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms. - Step 11
Lower the car. - Step 12
Open the boot lid. - Step 13
Unscrew the fastener and remove the boot side sound insulation. - Step 14
Detach the boot side lining. - Step 15
Remove the protective cap of the shock absorber mount. - Step 16
Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 17Unscrew the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #17. Use an adjustable wrench.Replacement: shock absorbers – Mercedes W169. AUTODOC experts recommend:To avoid injuries, hold the shock absorber when undoing the fastening bolts.Step 18
Remove the shock absorber.Replacement: shock absorbers – Mercedes W169. Tip from AUTODOC:Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it manually 3-5 times. - Step 19
Place the shock absorber in the wheel arch and secure it.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the shock absorber while screwing in the fastening bolts. Mercedes W169 - Step 20
Tighten the top shock absorber fastening. Use a combination spanner #17. Use an adjustable wrench. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 20 Nm torque. - Step 21
Treat the shock absorber fasteners. Use copper grease. - Step 22
Install the protective shock absorber mounting cap.
