How to change front brake discs and brake pads MERCEDES-BENZ A W169 TUTORIAL | AUTODOC
All the parts you need to replace – Brake Pads for A-Class (W169) and other MERCEDES-BENZ models
Perform the replacement of brake pads in complete set for each axis. This provides effective braking.
The replacement procedure is identical for all brake pads on the same axle.
Warning! Shut down the engine before starting any work – Mercedes W169.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Open the bonnet.Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.
Step 2
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 3
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts.Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 4
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 5
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Mercedes W169
Step 6
Remove the wheel.
Step 7
Disconnect the brake pad wear sensor plug.Use round-nose pliers.
Please note!
Some cars are not equipped with the brake pad wear sensor.
Step 8
Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush.Use WD-40 spray.
Step 9
Spread the brake pads.Use a crowbar.
Step 10
Unscrew the brake caliper fastening.Use a combination spanner #17.Use a drive socket #13.Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 11
Remove the brake caliper.
Replacement: brake pads – Mercedes W169. Tip from AUTODOC:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur. Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
Step 12
Remove the brake pads.Use a crowbar.
Step 13
Remove the brake pads retaining clips.
Use a crowbar.
